Isilon IQ 6000x with 4TB SAS drives?

Hello

I have an Isilon IQ 6000x NAS that currently houses 12 2TB SATA drives.  I wanted to replace them with 12- 4TB SAS drives.

I attempted to put in the drives however the MPT BIOS shows them to be 0GB in size.

Wondering if I am doing something wrong or if there is another issue that i'm not aware of?

Thank you in advance

Well that's half-correct.  You can connect SATA drives to SAS interfaces, however the reverse is not true.

The system is SAS/SATA compatible.  SAS drives work in the unit as well as SATA drives.

Hi,

of course it is not possible to change the hard drives to your own taste.

Especially not because SAS and SATA are two different interfaces.

Correct, but that doesn't mean to imply in any way that OneFS is going to permit you to use those drives.  Now if you're just talking about the hardware, the IQ 6000x nodes were IIRC all just Supermicro boards, so you can likely install Linux and slot the drives in as DAS.  But there is of course no guarantee, just people playing around with EOL hardware for a home lab or something.

That is correct. The IQ 6000x model can accommodate both as it has the SAS interfaces.
