wipe ssd
Had to replace my Inspiron because Dell customer service refused to fix it. Now I want to wipe the hard drive so I can get safely recycle it and it turns out this is not easy. Seems that when the laptop is booted from the USB port it doesn't recognize the SSD. Does anyone have any idea how to wipe the disk?

Hi
I have used Debian to wipe a hdd. And even if you left it with Debian on, there need be no details pertinent to you on it.
So that is a rather vague and wide ranging response.

It could be anything from a dead SSD to a boot drive that's not properly made for the system.
Anything less vague requires a less vague question - start with the model system (Inspiron 3593, etc) and type of drive (removeable NVME, removeable SATA, or eMMC embedded).

@ejn63 If it was a dead ssd then I wouldn't have been able to boot Windows on it.

You never mentioned that Windows was able to load on the system. The rest requires the answer to the model system you have. Could be the drive is in IRST mode and the flash drive you made doesn't have the IRST driver, or it could be an eMMC drive that needs a special driver to be seen by external flash media.
