Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting on Inspiron 15 5510 with Windows 11 – Driver Issue?

Hey Dell Community,

I’m having a frustrating issue with my Inspiron 15 5510 where the Wi-Fi keeps dropping every 10-20 minutes, and I’m hoping for some ideas to fix it.

Details:

  • Laptop Model: Dell Inspiron 15 5510 (purchased 2023, service tag available if needed).
  • OS: Windows 11 Home, 64-bit, version 24H2, build 26100.2161.
  • Wi-Fi Adapter: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz, driver version 23.40.0.4 (dated 03/2025).
  • Environment: Home network, TP-Link Archer AX50 router (2.4/5 GHz), other devices (phone, tablet) stay connected fine.
  • Software: Dell SupportAssist 4.0.3, BIOS 2.8.0 (latest per Dell Update), Microsoft Defender, no third-party antivirus.
  • Hardware: No external drives, single monitor, standard keyboard/mouse.

Issue:
The Wi-Fi icon shows “connected” but internet cuts out (no web pages load, pings fail). Event Viewer logs show “WLAN AutoConfig service has detected a problem with the wireless adapter” (Event ID 10003). Reconnecting manually (disable/enable Wi-Fi) or restarting fixes it temporarily, but it drops again. Issue started after the Windows 11 24H2 update in April 2025.

Steps Taken:

  1. Ran Dell SupportAssist diagnostics—no hardware issues found.
  2. Updated Wi-Fi driver via Dell Update to 23.40.0.4; also tried Intel’s latest driver (23.50.0.2)—same problem.
  3. Reset network settings (Settings > Network > Network Reset).
  4. Changed router channel (5 GHz, channel 36) and disabled Smart Connect—no change.
  5. Disabled power-saving for Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager (unchecked “Allow computer to turn off this device”).
  6. Ran netsh wlan show wlanreport—report mentions “disconnected due to driver-initiated reason.”
  7. Checked Dell Community for similar issues; found a 2024 thread on Inspiron 16 Wi-Fi but no clear solution.

What I Expected: Stable Wi-Fi connection without frequent drops, like before the 24H2 update.

What Happened: Wi-Fi drops persist, requiring manual reconnects multiple times an hour.

Question:
Has anyone else seen Wi-Fi drops on Inspiron 15 5510 with Windows 11 24H2? Could this be a driver bug, BIOS issue, or something else? Any debug steps (e.g., specific logs to check or settings to tweak)? I’m thinking of rolling back to 23H2 but want to try other fixes first. Thanks for any suggestions!

You can click here and here for resolving wifi issues with your laptop.

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

Thanks for the suggestions! I checked the links, but the Wi-Fi drops persist. My Inspiron 15 5510 is out of warranty, so I’ll try the out-of-warranty support.
