What recovery disc for Inspiron N7110?
I bought a used N7110 laptop at an estate sale that I can't get into because I don't know the previous owner's password. I tried pressing F8 while the Dell logo appeared (and before it...and after...at different frequencies continuously...and holding it down the whole time...) about a dozen times, with and without holding down the Fn key, and it just continued to boot like normal. Also tried F10/F11 to no avail. Can't find any related settings in the F2 or F12 options.
At this point I'm assuming my only option is to use a recovery disc to launch the system reset, but because the laptop is so old I have no idea how to get the disc I need. Sticker on the back says it uses Windows 7. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or is there something I could download on a USB stick to do it? Appreciate any suggestions.

Non-canned AI response:
Is the system locked with an administrative password (i.e. you cannot get into Setup -- F2 at powerup at all)?
If so, a reinstall won't help.
There are ways to reset a lost password if it's just a windows issue -- Lazesoft has a free utility that will do the job.
Windows 7 is no longer available from Microsoft (and is unsupported now for more than five years), but you can often find Dell recovery discs for sale on EBay, etc. (assuming the system's optical drive still works).

@ejn63 No, I am able to access the setup menu using F2. I just don't see any settings there related to a reset. Does that change anything? Would the utility you mentioned still work? Also since you mentioned AI, do you think the other comment's response wouldn't work?

A clean install of Windows will solve the problem, but you'll need a Dell Windows disc (see the EBay option).
The Lazesoft utility will work - you'll need to prepare a bootable flash drive to use it.

@ejn63 Thanks. Unfortunately, after many attempts/configurations, I haven't been able to get Lazesoft or Rufus to work. The computer just boots up like normal even when I select the option to boot from my removable drive or move USB to the top of boot priority order in BIOS settings.
So I'm probably going to try the CD-ROM method. Do you know what sort of disc I would need? Is it specific to the computer model or to the Windows version?

If you have the product key (look under the battery), you can use any Windows 7 disc. If not, you'll need an OEM Dell Windows 7 disc.

Actually, something just occurred to me that I probably should have realized much earlier...when I log into Windows on the Inspiron, the log in screen actually doesn't look like Windows 7. It looks a lot like the one on Windows 10, which I use on my main PC. I'm wondering if it's possible that the previous owner upgraded despite the N7110 not officially supporting anything beyond Windows 8.
I will have to give the utilities a try again with Windows 10, but do you know if it's possible at all to factory restore a laptop via boot media if the OS it's currently running isn't a supported one?

If the system was running Windows 10, you can install that (download the MS Media Creation tool from Microsoft). It will automatically activate when you go online.

@ejn63 Unfortunately the MS Media Creation tool didn't work when booting with my USB. I borrowed some blank discs from a friend and burned a Windows 7 ISO on one, hoping to install it and revert back that way, but no dice when using that and setting it to boot from CD-ROM either. It does hang longer on startup as if it's recognizing it but that's it. Same thing when I tried burning LazeSoft. I'm wondering now if something is wrong with the laptop to not be able to load bootable media. Any ideas?
