Webcam not working on Inspiron 16.

Cannot get the integrated webcam to work. Tried all of the troubleshooting that i could find including spending time on a live chat and share with Microsoft but nothing is working.

Thanks, Jesse. I tried each of the above several times, disabled and re-enabled the camera, spent a 1/2 hour on a chat with Microsoft and another 1/2 hour with Dell support. Then spoke to my adult kids and they read that there is a "switch" that can be covering the camera. Someone at Dell must have a sense of humor. I had looked and run my finger over the camera repeatedly but until I took a flashlight and found the black on black slide of about 1/16 of an inch. Problem solved.

If your Dell Inspiron 16 webcam isn't working, try running the SupportAssist diagnostics, enabling camera access in Windows privacy settings, and ensuring the camera is enabled in the BIOS.

1. Run SupportAssist Diagnostics:
Open SupportAssist: Search for "SupportAssist" in the Windows search bar and open the app.
Troubleshooting Tab: Navigate to the "Troubleshooting" tab and select "I want to check a specific piece of hardware".
Camera Devices: Under "Camera Devices", select "Camera" and follow the on-screen instructions to complete diagnostics.
2. Enable Camera Access in Windows Privacy Settings:
Open Settings: Go to the Start menu and open "Settings".
Privacy: Select "Privacy" and then "Camera".
Allow apps to access your camera: Ensure the "Allow apps to access your camera" option is enabled.
Specific App Permissions: You may also need to enable camera access for specific applications in the Camera settings.
3. Check BIOS Settings:
Restart Computer: Restart your computer and press F2 repeatedly during startup to enter the BIOS setup.
Integrated Devices: Navigate to "Integrated Devices" (or similar) and ensure the camera is enabled.
Save and Exit: Save the changes and exit the BIOS.

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.
