[Urgent BIOS Issue] Severe Power Limit Throttling on Dell G15 5530 (i7-13650HX / RTX 4060) since BIOS 1.28.1– Please fix this, Dell!

Hello Dell Support Team and Community,

I’m writing this post after months of testing and frustration, hoping someone from Dell’s engineering team can finally take this issue seriously.

I own a Dell G15 5530 equipped with Intel Core i7-13650HX, RTX 4060, and the 330 W original power adapter.
The problem began since BIOS version 1.26.1 and still persists in 1.28.1 — the laptop constantly hits “Power Limit Throttling” (PL1/PL2) even when:

  • The CPU temperature is below 90 °C

  • The laptop is running in “Ultra Performance” mode in Alienware Command Center

  • It is plugged in with the official 330 W adapter

  • The GPU and CPU are not even close to their design limits

Before BIOS 1.26.1, the CPU could easily maintain higher wattage and better sustained performance.
After these BIOS updates, performance dropped drastically, and it’s now clear that EC or BIOS power management is unnecessarily restricting the CPU.

I’ve seen many other users report the same problem across forums and Reddit.
Yet, Dell has never officially acknowledged nor fixed this regression — despite multiple reports.

This is not about overclocking or pushing the system beyond spec — this is about restoring the previous, intended performance behavior before these restrictive BIOS updates.

Please, Dell — we are your loyal customers.
We bought this machine for its power and reliability. We don’t want to lose performance just because of EC/BIOS mismanagement.
All we’re asking for is a BIOS fix or at least a confirmation that this issue is under investigation.

If anyone else experiences the same throttling behavior, please reply below or upvote this thread — the more voices we have, the higher the chance Dell will respond.

Thank you,
A frustrated but loyal Dell G15 5530 owner

I’ve been experiencing serious issues since BIOS update 1.23, and it seems the company is not addressing this problem. The device’s performance has become extremely poor, even on battery power, with frequent stuttering. Even after updating to 1.28.1, these issues still persist, with CPU and GPU power being throttled unnecessarily. I hope Dell takes this seriously and releases a proper update that actually fixes performance, not just security.

Yes, I also have the same issue. guys, this is Dell 15 Inspiron 3520. CPU throttles all way down to 0.53 GHz upon unplugging charger. it's just too worse. I can't use my laptop without plugging in charger. It's absolutely unusable, tried downgrade of BIOS, but no help! Please Dell, show up for fixing.

Dell BIOS version: 1.35.0
