Unable to change battery charge stop and start thresholds when UEFI admin password is set
Although this is most likely intended behavior, it is quite annoying to need to go the UEFI setup menu to change those settings, and not having and admin password set is quite bad for security, as anyone with physical access to the machine could easily bypass Secure boot and/or disable any security related settings.
Thus I would like to know if there is a way to be able to change those settings from within the OS while the keeping the admin password in the UEFI setup for security.
Is such thing possible?
Model Inspirion 15 3520 (note: apparently there is 2 products with such model name, I am referring to the following one: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-15-laptop/spd/inspiron-15-3520-laptop)
feel free to request any system information that you may find relevant

Hey @zoeeee!
Thanks for letting us know about your issue. Yeah, I totally get how that can be annoying. I don’t want to be that guy, but you’re correct this is working as designed. The UEFI admin password protects hardware level settings like battery charge behavior, so changes require authentication.
One thing to note is that on business class systems like Latitude, there is a tool called Dell Command | Configure which lets you change these settings from within the OS. However, it still requires the BIOS password to be provided, it just avoids having to go into the BIOS menu.
Also, Inspiron systems are generally intended more for personal use rather than business environments. I’m not sure how you’re using the system, but based on the security setup you described, it sounds like a business use case, which is where Latitude/OptiPlex/Precision systems are typically a better fit for these types of management features.
For more information, you can refer to Dell’s documentation here: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000178000/dell-command-configure
I hope this information is somewhat helpful. If you have any questions, just let us know.
