Hold the D key through powerup - does the screen self-test run?

If you need more specific information, post the complete model number  -- Inspiron 3501, 5593, etc.

It is a good sign that the charging light is active, as it confirms the power adapter and battery circuit are functioning. If the power button is unresponsive, the motherboard likely needs a hard reset to clear 'flea power' or a static charge that is preventing it from booting.

Please try these steps in this exact order:

Perform a Hard Reset: This is the most effective way to wake a non-responsive motherboard.

Disconnect the AC power adapter.

*Press and hold the Power Button for a full 60 seconds.*

Plug the AC adapter back in and attempt to turn the laptop on normally.

Run the Display Built-In Self-Test (BIST): This will determine if the screen itself is physically broken or if the issue is with the motherboard/RAM.

Ensure the laptop is powered off.

*Press and hold the 'D' key on the keyboard.*

While holding 'D', tap the Power Button once and then release both.

If the screen is functional, you will see a sequence of solid colors (Red, Green, Blue, Black, White) flashing. If the screen remains black during this test, the display panel or its internal cable has likely failed.

Identify Diagnostic LED Codes: Most Inspiron laptops use the battery charge/status light to communicate hardware failures.

Press the power button and watch the light closely.

*Count the number of Amber (orange) flashes followed by the number of White flashes.* (Example: 2 amber, 7 white).

This specific pattern is a diagnostic code that identifies exactly which part, such as the RAM or CMOS battery, is causing the startup failure.

External Monitor Test: If you have an HDMI cable and a TV or monitor available, *plug the laptop into the external screen and press the power button.* If an image appears on the TV but not the laptop, the issue is isolated to the laptop’s built-in display.

If the hard reset does not work and you see a specific flashing light pattern, please provide the number of amber and white flashes so we can identify the specific hardware fault
