Power failure on my Inspiron 15-3542 after CMOS battery replacement
Hello everyone
I really need your help..After many years as a happy owner without any problem at all, one day i heard 5 beeps the moment i booted my laptop, so it was time for a cmos battery replacement. I opened it, put a new cmos battery and furthermore i replaced the thermal paste on cpu and gpu and cleaned cpu fan and ventilation holes. Then i succesfully booted up on windows 11. I checked if everything was ok, the device manager to see if all devices worked properly etc. By the way, i use my laptop without battery since the moment i had to buy another one, but i never did it. So everything seemed to be ok (except the sound which was a little bit low than before when i listen to a music track online, but when i play music and video files on my hd, sound seemed normal). So i shuted it off and go to bed. Next morning i couldn't boot my laptop-led power indicator was shut off, but the one in my psu was on. Panic. I put the old battery back on and laptop power led indicator was on again, but nothing happens when i push the start button. What do you think is the cause of this? What do i have to do? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Update: I managed to lock ribbon cable in its mobo seat and i fixed the touchpad with a weird solution i found on the net: Under Device Manage-Human Interface Devices-Synaptics HID Device I disabled it and restart the machine then enable it again and it worked! Thanks @anyabaker for your post, i consider this issue fixed

@anyabaker thank you very much for your quick answer! Problem is that i cannot boot up my laptop, so i don't have BIOS access. When i push the power button nothing happens. Power led indicator is off. It turns on when i put back on the old dell battery but still power button doesn't work. Strange thing though was after the repair the laptop seemed to be worked for an hour, until i turn it off. When i tried to turn it on again, the problem i described occured.

I just figure out that during the repair i attempted, i lost the plastic part of the motherboard which locks the power button ribbon cable, so sometimes laptop boots up sometimes it doesn't. So the ribbon cable doesnt firmly seated in place. Furthermore although touchpad is recognized by windows, doesn't work also. Seems i can't avoid professional help from a technician..
