Persistent Heating Issue on Dell G15 5520 Despite Latest Firmware Updates (Bios 1.31 & EC Firmware 1.17)

Dear Dell Technologies,

I’m writing to report a persistent heating issue on my Dell G15 5520 that started after updating to BIOS version 1.28, which also included EC firmware version 1.17. Despite subsequent updates to BIOS versions 1.29, 1.30, and 1.31, the overheating problem remains unresolved.

I suspect that the issue may be related to the EC firmware, as version 1.16 seemed to work fine before the update. The laptop continues to overheat during normal use, which has significantly affected its performance and comfort.

Could you please look into whether there’s an issue with the EC firmware update or if there are any additional solutions to resolve this problem?

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Jacob Johns

I suggest taking the bottom off and cleaning the machine and get any dust out of the fans etc.

I refurbished my old XPS 15 9570 with new fans and even the thermal material as this machine has discrete graphics and a 130W PSU is needed,

@HedgeFundManager I can assure you that there isn't any spec of dust inside or outside the laptop, and it has nothing to do with dust. It is caused by updating the BIOS to 1.28.0 and ever since then my laptop hasn't been the same.

And I'm not the only one who's dealing with this problem, many other users with this same exact model has also having this problem after updating to BIOS 1.28.0.
