No sound on volume mixer

Anyone have this issue?
I raised the volume on the sound bar (realtek audio). Isn't it supposed to make a little test sound when you raise or lower the volume? 

For some reason it doesn't. It also no longer makes any sound for incoming mail on Thunderbird, even though I have it configured to make a sound. I also noticed there's no sound when I test volume mixer in settings.

It was suggested I need to do a system reset, but I did one not long ago, in May. 

All drivers are up to date. 

Any suggestions?
