my dell laptop is unexpectedly shutting down

Inspiron 7706 2-in-1

Inspiron 7706 2-in-1

HI I have for a while been having trouble with my dell laptop shutting down unexpectdly some times I will be on the internet watching a video on youtube  or just doing reading and then out of the blue the laptop will shutdown for no reason at all my laptop does not restart I have to push the power button back on and go back on the internet or continue playing the game or do reading on the internet again.  I have been having this problem for quit a while sometimes when I lift the lid the laptop will startup and then the laptop will work for a while until it gets hot and it will shutdown unexpectedly.  But this same problem will even happen when it is plugged in or just sitting idle.  I did use intels Intel support % driver tool to update my drivers thinking this was why my laptop was shutting down out of the blue.  I never did a clean install of these drivers after doing this for a little while this issue contiued so I rolled back the drivers.  I never deleted any drivers at all so I unistalled the intel support % driver from my laptop.  I also have found out that if my laptop is to hot and the fan is running hard my laptop will shutdown too.  This has happened twice today so far.  I also tried going to the intel forums and somebody from the intel forums suggested a mong other things to download this program called Aida64 extreme to my laptop  So I was asked to do a full burn in test to clock my cpu.  I must say that I do not want to do this I am worried I will wreck my laptop.

I have also done several virus scans with windows security that comes built into windows 11 23h2.  No threats are ever found same with Malwarebytes free their were no viruses or pups or anything found with this program either I even did a thirty day trial of hitman pro and it never found  any threats either.

I not been opening any emails with links or downloading any unsafe programs off of the internet.

I should mention that I have my laptop on a laptop table and my laptop is sitting flat can this cause the laptop to get hot and shutdown unexpectedly.

The above issue happens when the laptop is idle and doing nothing or it will happen when I am charging the battery.  Should I be concerned should I be elevating my laptop.

I do all my windows updates including commultive updates and preview optional updates and update all programs on my computer as well.

Here is a link to all the warnings and errors and messages I have a link below sorry for all the information in the logs.

Let me now what to do next just remember I am not an advanced user I can not play around in the registry at all in fear of messing it up ok.

here is the link below:

all windows logs and warnings, error messages january 6, 2024.evtx

If I have any more issues that relate to the above issue I will post more updates to this thread

I could please use some help though I am getting angry

I had a person I now blow out the fans by taking my laptop apart and the fans were not clogged with hair or dust.  This person after doing this put the bottom back on and put all the screws back in as well that is ok.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

We have several different models here facing random shutdowns, so it will be hard to suggest a solution that will be applicable for all systems. In this case, I suggest you:

If in warranty, contact support by clicking on Get Help Now at the bottom right corner of this page.

Additionally, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure Proper Ventilation: Elevate the laptop to improve airflow and prevent overheating.
  • Update BIOS and Drivers: Ensure all BIOS and drivers are up to date from Dell's official website.
  • Check Power Settings: Adjust power settings to prevent the laptop from overheating.
  • Run Dell Diagnostics: To determine if the problem is hardware or software-related, run the onboard Dell diagnostics. This test takes about 10 minutes.

I have experienced the same for almost a year and applied every suggestion with no success. The screen randomly goes blank but the keyboard lights stay on. I have to hold start button down to shut off and restart. I thought it might be a short between the lid and base but have repeatedly check all connections. I also think it is a software issue and have repeatedly updated the OS, software, drivers and disabled programs that might be causing a conflict. Temperature apps are not indicating that it is overheating. I uninstalled the Dell Support Assist Apps that some owners say causes the problem. Hopefully someone can shed some new light on a solution.

Same problem here.  It even will randomly shut down when it is cold and I have literally just started the computer after being unused all night.  Any fixes found yet?

Same issue here. Random shut down. Laptop only on for about 5 minutes, plugged into power supply, not hot, fan not running. Screen goes black. Press start button and it come right back to where I was. Inspiron 7706 laptop. This just started happening about a couple of weeks ago and doesn't happen too often. Hoping it doesn't get worse.

This is so frustrating b/c I am  experiencing the same shut downs with my xps13 Dell laptop and the frequency is increasing.

For anybody that's still looking for a solution to this problem, I found a thread on Reddit that may help. I've yet to test this myself; I can report back here if I ever get around to it but not anytime soon.

The same is happening with my Dell Vostro. It randomly shuts off on its own, regardless of whether it is plugged in or fully charged. I even got my battery changed, but the issue persists. It's disappointing, considering my laptop is just a year old. Is there any fix?

I am shocked that no one from Dell has offered a solution. I am seriously considering a new XPS 13 too. I have customized it on their site and placed in my Cart but not purchased yet.
