Limit Battery charge level on Inspiron 14 7445 2-in-1

Help please.

I’d really like to enable the option to plug in the laptop but have to battery charge level stop at 80%.  I like this option to preserve battery health (and lifespan).

My old Dell laptop had this feature, but I’ve been unable to find it on my new Inspiron 14. I contacted Dell Support chat and they responded that they don’t think it has this feature.  But maybe it will be added later.

Does anyone know if this feature exists?    And if Dell does eventually decide to add it, how would I even find out about it?

Alternatively, is there is a third-party way to do this?

Thanks!

I bought Dell 14 7445 2in1 on January 2025 and I had this function in Dell software that I had with the laptop. But a couple months ago, some software auto-updated and I have this tab in Dell Optimizer, but it didn't work anymore (( But we can change these settings through BIOS settings:

  1. Restart or turn on your Dell computer.
  2. At the Dell logo screen, repeatedly tap the F2 key to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup utility.
  3. In the BIOS menu, use the arrow keys or the mouse to navigate to the Power Management section (sometimes found under the General or Power tab).
  4. Select Primary Battery Charge Configuration or Battery Settings.
  5. Choose your desired charging mode:
    • Adaptive: The recommended "set it and forget it" option that optimizes charging based on usage patterns.
    • Primarily AC Use: Limits the charge threshold to extend battery life if you keep the laptop plugged in most of the time.
    • Custom: Allows you to set specific Start Charging and Stop Charging percentage thresholds (e.g., start at 60% and stop at 80%).
    • Standard or ExpressCharge (other options for faster charging).
  6. Select Apply or Apply Changes, then select Exit or OK to save the settings and restart the system.

Hope it helps you :)

You can download and installing MyDell application from here https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=kv41r&oscode=w2021&productcode=inspiron-14-7445-2-in-1-laptop

After installation, launch MyDell app and select charging mode Primarily AC.  Review the option for customizing your battery here  https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/mydell/mydell_3.0_ug/using-power?guid=guid-ac031d22-8a18-4150-8ff5-a9c8f6924b4b&lang=en-us

@Chino de Oro  Thanks for your help.  Unfortunately that didn't work.  MyDell wouldn't install.  The system stated I had the newer version of MyDell, called Dell Optimizer.  And Dell Optimizer doesn't have the option to adjust charge levels.  I even attempted to uninstall Optimizer and install MyDell but it wouldn't let me.

I did not know that Inspiron can support Dell Optimizer.  Last time I check, it works with the following platforms:

  • Dell Latitude
  • Dell OptiPlex
  • Dell Precision

The one Dell recommend I installed is called "Dell Optimizer Application"  Dell lists nearly two dozen Inspiron models it supports:

Maybe its different than "Dell Optimizer" as it certainly doesn't seem to do much.

Am continuing to do research to assist you and I found the new Dell Optimizer 6.0 is going to replace older Optimizer as well as MyDell.

The new Dell Optimizer has option to extend the battery life and longevity of your computer with Intelligent Battery Extender and Dynamic Charge.  Verify that you can update/upgrade to the latest Optimizer and review the link below for overview and common questions.  I see that the interface has customizable option for Power & Battery.

Thanks for your help.  I do appreciate it.

Yes, I'm running the latest version, Dell Optimizer Application 6.0.2.0.  Release date
07 Jan 2025

When I run the app there is no option to adjust battery charge percentage.

@keskilya that worked!!

Nobody from Dell has been able to solve this for me.  I contacted Dell Support more than once.

Thank you so much.  You rock!
