Laptop for 2025 architecture software

I need some help on choosing a cost effective solution from the Dell store for my son to use to get him through three years study on an architecture course demanding use of Autodesk Revit 2025 software. I'm shortlisting a G15 Gaming Laptop but it's short on RAM at 16GB.

Alternative is perhaps something from the XPS range but cost is getting high. Budget is within £1K.

Any advise gratefully received.

The hardware is at the low end of the requirements, so with reasonable expectations, yes, and subject to the system being covered by a warranty for 3 years (or 4).

For that price you'd be better off with a desktop system -- not a notebook.  You can get twice the level of hardware (CPU/GPU/RAM and a better video card) for that money.

If you must buy a notebook at that price, you will compromise -- the build quality on a $1,000 notebook isn't going to be XPS level, and bear in mind that just about everything but the RAM and storage is soldered to the mainboard, so any post-warranty failure of consequence will require a system board that likely will exceed half the price of the system.  Get at least a 3-year comprehensive warranty, insurance included on the notebook.  The repair percentage for notebooks in the first three years is about 30% regardless of brand, and repairs are expensive.  The extra cost up front is worth the coverage.

He's a student so a laptop is essential...will the Dell G15 be up to running Revit well-enough for an architecture degree for the next 2-3 years?

Many thanks. I'm buying from the Dell online store with warranty etc so I think I'm good to go 😎
