Hi Same thing has happened to my Dell Inspiron twice. It was repaired last August by Dell since I had paid for the premium help but it has broken again this week. I no longer have premium help and the quote to fix it was £250. This seems to be a common problem with this particular laptop family. I am replacing the laptop - spoke to Dell sales and in response to my question to the salesperson ' has this common problem been resolved' he suggested I go for another model!
Since all the competing models from HP, ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, etc. are built largely the same way, you won't find the situation any different with another "brand" of consumer-grade notebook.
All of the consumer models (Inspiron/Vostro, IdeaPad, Pavilion, etc.) are built to a price - largely of plastic including structural components.
If you don't want to be in the same situation in another year or two, skip the sub-$1,000 consumer-grade notebooks entirely.

Contact a local repair shop or Dell for a cost estimate.

Check Warranty: If your laptop is under warranty or has accidental damage coverage, contact Dell support for a free or discounted repair.
Temporary Fix: Use a laptop stand and external keyboard/mouse to avoid opening/closing the lid, preventing further hinge damage.
Local Repair Shop: If out of warranty, get a quote from a trusted local repair technician (may be cheaper than Dell).
Order Parts Online: If you're confident with DIY, buy a replacement lid and hinge online and follow repair tutorials (only if you're experienced).
Backup Data: In case the damage worsens, back up all important files now.
