Intel Iris Xe drivers: no support for ultra wide resolution (above 1920x1080) - Inspiron 15 3530

Inspiron 15 3530

Inspiron 15 3530

I've recently acquired the Inspiron 15 3530. While the computer is very good, I need support to use my UltraWide monitor.

I've connected it to the HDMI port and it works. However, it only goes up to 1920x1080 resolution, which makes my monitor not as comfortable as it should be.

I've found that other users were able to rollback to previous versions of the Intel Iris Xe drivers (2022 versions), but my hardware only rollsback to 2023 versions of the driver.

Is there a software workaround? Or will I need to invest in other solutions? I wouldn't mind... I just need my ultrawide monitor to work fine. For example, if I buy a Dell dockstation, will it work? I guess not...

What I find interesting is that I used to work in a very old laptop and it used to have support for greater resolutions just fine... I find odd that a good standard model from Dell does not support that... Is an update on the pipeline?

Please help.

Thanks.

It should work, but depending on exactly what you're going to be displaying on the system, may also reveal the system's budget nature in terms of performance.  For static images, it may do OK -- for video use, you'll run into the limits of an entry level budget notebook rapidly.

If you have the system with a USB-C port (discrete video), it should work with the widescreen.  If you have the HDMI only version (no USB-C port) it is limited to FHD video.

If "Recently acquired" is within 30 days of shipment, it'd be a good idea to return the system in favor of a more capable model in either case.

@ejn63 Thanks for the quick response.

Yes, I could do that, but I would prefer a workaround instead.

Would you happen to know if I buy the following gadget I would be able to use my monitor? Plugable USB 3.0 4K HDMI Adapter for Multiple Monitors – Plugable Technologies

Thanks,
