Inspiron 7440 -- Ice Blue -- Key Color Peeling Off

Hello All,

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron Plus 14, model 7440, which only comes in "ice blue".

The laptop was offered with absolutely everything that I could want:

Intel Core Ultra 9 185H

32 GB DDR5 6400 MT/s

2,8K screen in a 16:10 aspect ratio

1080p webcam

Storage - I´m going to swap it out with a Kingston KC3000 4TB Gen 4 7000 / 7000

Price was great!

The only thing that worries me.....the keys.  The last Inspiron that I bought (the 7400) had a disaster of a keyboard.  The keys were COATED silver, and the coating started coming off within the first months of use, and I used this computer very, very gently. Very, very disappointing.

Does anyone know if the keys on this new Inspiron 7400 are actually the color that they are, or are they COATED as well?  It´s the only issue that´s nagging at me.

I should be getting my Inspiron in a couple of weeks.

Anything you can add will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!

It's just about guaranteed they're painted.

@ejn63

Thank you for your very prompt answer.

I'll post here if they start peeling like the ones on my 7400 did.

For what it's worth, I'll just add my grievance here:  I would have bought another Dell XPS had they not "improved" it by removing the clickable track pad, and replacing the function keys with the "Capacitive Touch Function Keys".

The Dell XPS 9520 is my favorite laptop, and I would have bought two more of them this year if not for the above-mentioned design changes 😭

With any consumer-grade system (Inspiron, HP Pavilion, Lenovo IdeaPad) if you go into the purchase realizing they're all built to last a couple to three years and then be recycled, you'll be fine.

If you buy any of them expecting a system that will run without issue for five years or longer, you'll be disappointed.

Noted. Thank you.

Generally speaking, whenever I buy anything, I use it gently, take good care of it, and try to get the maximum life out of it that I can. 😊

Many people do, but the bottom line is that 3 years out of a consumer-grade notebook without a failure somewhere is the design life.

Business notebooks are built around a 5 year design life.
