Inspiron 5578 Keyboard Re[lacement
The same keys are intermittent. Sometimes they work. Other times act up.
-Capitol E skips, but I can get an "E" by hitting caps lock. Neither shift key works when E is bad.
-Enter key often stops working, especially when I want to login the PC.
-Page Up key in lower right sometimes goes unresponsive
I get around it by plugging in a keyboard.
I have a replacement keyboard shell, but it's not new. I wonder if I should try installing it?
Or is there something simpler like reseating the KBD ribbon cable?

Check inside the system for signs of a swollen battery - - if the battery is swollen, remove and dispose of it.
If the battery appears OK, you can try reseating the cables for the keyboard and touchpad. Otherwise, replace the palmrest assembly.

I swapped in the spare keyboard. It's an awful job, as the key board assembly is bonded to the underside of the top cover, with all the laptop components screwed to it. You basically remove everything from the interior, replace the top cover and put everything back.
There is a video on youtube, but the tech does not tell how to open the keyboard connector. I had to watch in slow motion and saw his fingers flip a latch on the connector. The new keyboard also had an extra 4 connector ribbon, but there was a spot on the old circuit boards to connect them.
I dunno if my swap will work. The CPU heatsink adhesive had dried out and the heat sink fell off, so I am waiting for amazon to ship me a tube of glue tomorrow,
