Inspiron 3501, no audio after sleep
I think an update broke my audio driver because I didn't make any changes and it has worked for years:
Dell Inspiron 3501 with Cirrus Logic Superior High Definition Audio driver
Yesterday I noticed that when my laptop came out of sleep, there was no sound.
No sound from ANY source
Plugging in headphone would not appear as an audio device in addition to the speakers
If headphones had been plugged in, it would disappear as an audio device after coming out of sleep.
I tried all the suggestions I could find for "no sound after sleep" for the settings on my computer.
This included resetting these services to Running and Automatic:
Windows Audio
Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
Plug And Play
I also downloaded and reinstalled the Cirrus driver from Dell
For good measure, I ran the in-place Windows Repair Update and re-flashed the BIOS.
None of this fixed it. I have to reboot to get the sound back.
All I can think of to do is disable the sleep from the power button options and time out.
Has anyone else have any ideas, or think an update broke it?

Cirrus Logic? There's a name that I haven't heard of in ages. I didn't know they were still producing ICs, let alone audio controllers. (They were known back in the 90s for display and drive controllers).
Have you tried rolling back to an older driver version? Does your Windows Update history show any recent updates to the audio driver?

@Kflash08 I just tried going back a coupe of versions. No change as I expected. I don't know where to look for history, but I doubt the driver was changed since the newest one I got from Dell was dated 1/22/22.

Fast Startup requires Hibernation which is not activated on my notebook.
Power Management tab does not exist on my driver
Audio Enhancements are disabled
I've installed the driver from Device Manager and Dell update
Fix without reboot???????????
Check if Windows Update Caused it? I did a repair Update and there's no going back.
I've pretty much decided that turning off the screen is a better option than sleep for my purposes anyway. Still I'd like to know if anyone else with my laptop and driver has had the same issue after updating.

If I had to guess, I would say that it was likely a recent Windows Update that caused the problem. Seeing that you've already did a repair install, which uses the most up-to-date version of Windows 11 with the latest updates applied, uninstalling those recent updates will most likely be impossible without reinstalling Windows from scratch. Likely something changed in a recent update that now requires an updated driver, or it could be one of the many bugs that was introduced in the OS.
You can try one of the recent Cirrus Logic audio drivers from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Before continuing, create a System Restore point as a per-caution. Download and extract the contents of the CAB file into a temporary folder, then go to Device Manager, double-click on your Cirrus Logic device, click Update Driver and browse to the folder where you extracted the files. If you receive an error message after clicking next, changes are that the particular drivers you downloaded are not comparable with your hardware.

@Kflash08 Thanks for the info Kflash. I've never downloaded from the Microsoft catalogue before and had a problem: I clicked on Download for Cirrus Logic Inc. Driver Update 10.0.7.62 the update for 25H2. That gave me a window that showed 9f23fb2d-4faf-43b9-8dd1-91fd2810c3e1_1ead0e9ec81e62b8c4e9e7b02a7a20b138e1726c.cab I clicked on that and it went to my download folder. I clicked on it there and it showed 3 files, cahda2.cat cahda2.inf and cahda2.sys which I copied to a folder. I browsed to that folder in Device Manager Update. When I clicked Next, it said The best driver was already installed. My current driver is 6.6001.4.12

@JeffLeites Then that probably means that those drivers were not written for your audio controller, as it couldn't find a matching ID.
I did a little bit of research and found the audio controller (Cirrus Logic CS8409) that's used in your Inspiron 3501. You can try this driver here, also from MU Catalog. This appears to the latest driver from 2023 that should work with your audio controller, updating you from v6.6001.4.12 to 6.6001.4.18.

I updated to 6.6001.4.18, but still no audio after Sleep. I guess I can leave it installed. Thanks for trying.

@JeffLeites I am having the same issue with my inspiron 3501 too. Unfortunately now after reset it still doesn't work. Well, one day it decided to work again, but now no sound again after restarting. Frustrating...but might just try to set up an external speaker, until maybe they fix the problems, if ever. I tried all the usual fixes, but to no avail.

I am having the same problem with my 3501. I'm not sure what update has caused this (in the last month? Probably around March 2026?), but it is super annoying. This needs to be fixed!
Disabling Fast Boot does seem to allow it to always work when rebooting. But it never works when coming out of sleep mode without a reboot, no matter what I do.
Going into the bios and saving and then resetting also seems to work (but only until it enters sleep mode).

I'm wondering if it was update KB5086672. That's the one that says "2006-03 Update (KB5086672) (26200.8117) is available. That was suppose to fix errors in the last Preview update. I didn't install the Preview, but I did install KB5086672. I think that is around the time the internet connect delay started. I uninstalled KB5086672, but still have the problem. Maybe the damage was done. I Google KB5086672, and found "While intended to fix installation errors, some users report bugs, including network connectivity issues and system freezing.". So I'm hoping it is a Windows problem that they will fix. I've already tried every fix on the web. I even installed a newer driver from Intel, which didn't fix it, and now it won't let me go back to the last network driver listed on Dell Drivers and Downloads (it says mine is newer). One other problem that showed up last month is, when it comes out of sleep, there is no sound until the next boot. Do you have that problem too? My workaround for that is to turn off the display instead of going into sleep mode. I'm considering a factory reset, but not looking forward to it.

@JeffLeites I've tried to reply to this thread several times with a big long post work around for us, but it keeps giving me an error (probably because I had some code for a batch file included)..
Anyways, it essentially involves disabling and re-enabling the Cirrus driver. I made a script so if you want to see my big, long winded reply (which I think you'll find very useful!) hit me up with a PM on red-it at thesan92.

Man I tried everything...
Spent about 6 hours today messing with this.
However!! I have found a workaround today without rebooting, and it's going to be a life-changer for me. I realized the only way I could get this to work every time it came out of sleep was to disable and re-enable the 'Cirrus Logic Superior High Definition Audio' in Device Manager (Located under 'Sound Video, and Game Controllers' >> 'Right click > disable device, wait a few seconds, Right click > enable device). Until a fix is found, this will work every time until it goes back to sleep.
I have a very long writeup but for some reason the forums keep kicking me out (probably because it includes part of a script to automate the process?)
If anyone has a solution to how I can post it here or get the information to you, let me know.

@JeffLeites I sent you a PM on the MSFT TechCommunity since you had a similar post over there about the no audio after sleep. Hope you can retrieve my message there!

@dj_me See my replies to @JeffLeites. I've figured out a workaround, including writing a script to automate it after coming out of sleep without requiring a reboot. If you have an account on MSFT TechCommunity I can PM you there with the whole message I was trying to post here, unsucessfully.
I'm thesan92 on msft tech if you want to message me.
