Inspiron 16 5645: BIOS battery charge limit does not work
Hello,
I am using Inspiron 16 5645 with the latest BIOS 1.11.0. I have tried changing the battery charging settings from the BIOS.
Battery Charge Configuration (Standard, Express, Adaptive, Primarily_AC, Custom) and Advanced Battery Charge Configuration.
Specifically, I set the battery charging configuration to Custom with a minimum of 65% and a maximum of 80%. However, the system charges up to 100% and does not take into account the actual remaining charge level.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you

Can you confirm the battery configuration settings in your MyDell app?

@JKenn Hi, I am using ubuntu 24.04 LTS. However, I tested several utilities (TLP, libsmbios and dell configure command) and no one is able to control the charging settings. So I think it could be a BIOS bug.

Hello, I discovered that the previous BIOS 1.10.0 allows you to change these settings and they work. Furthermore, on Windows 11, but only with the previous BIOS 1.10.0, you can change the settings via software.

I was about to ask what Dell Command functions you had used to configure the battery; however, the BIOS rollback does seem to imply that the latest version of the BIOS might be the issue. Just one thought - the issue might have been caused by corruption of the BIOS/configuration during the update, rather than an issue with the new version of the BIOS - might be worth downloading and updating the BIOS again to see if the issue reoccurs.

Today Dell released a new BIOS 1.13.0 which, as expected, fixed the charging limit issue. However, with GNU/Linux it is still not possible to control the settings.

That sounds like progress!
