Inspiron 15 3520 Broken Hinge

Inspiron 15 3520

Inspiron 15 3520

As reported by many other users in this community forum and on other internet forums, the hinge of my 4-month-old laptop also broke all of a sudden while opening the screen. There was no physical damage or drop but it seems like a poor-quality design certainly not expected from a company like Dell. I am going to contact support to request under warranty service as this is absolutely a manufacturer defect since it broke under normal use without any physical misuse. Very disappointed!

Just had a chat with Dell Support. Provided the 360 degree pictures and confirmed no physical misuse or damage. I was told to wait for 48 hours to get progress status on this service request. Not sure what it means or why 48 hours since this seems a design or poor quality issue in Dell laptops as reported by many other users as well. Anyway, will wait and update other community members here once a response is provided.

My laptop (same type)is from January of 2024 and starting doing this yesterday, did you ever get the issue fixed? It's super annoying and i'm really afraid i'm going to destroy its casing if i keep trying to use it.

I have had the same problem. There was no physical damage to the laptop.First the hinge squeaked for a few weeks, then it broke and the frame around the screen pulled away. Now the frame has broken. The screen is flickering since this has happened. I can't find where Dell is offering any assistance. I am going directly to them today but don't expect a different outcome. The same thing happened to my daughter's computer.

I just experienced the same problem with my Dell laptop this week. I tried to click on the "Go to Solution" link at the top of this page, but it doesn't go anywhere so I assume there is no solution.

My laptop has now become a desktop. It still works, but the lid is open and I'm afraid to close it. I am searching to buy a replacement laptop and wondered if Dell is standing behind any of this. I have always liked Dell computers, but this is a deal breaker if they won't stand behind an obvious design flaw. I am hoping a Dell representative will respond to this post.

Did you ever receive a reply from Dell?

Dell never responded to me which was disappointing as a long-time buyer of Dell hardware but after this piece of shoddy design/engineering and total lack of customer care it will be my last Dell for a while, especially after seeing Michael Dell fawning over Trump (until this week!!!)  I'm guessing he isn't as smart as I'd thought if he believed Trump was going to help his business.
PS - I bought an Asus which has been great so far.
