Inspiron 14 7420 2-in-1 Audio takes 50 sec to switch to earphone

My new laptop is not able to switch the audio from speaker to earphone seamlessely.

Steps:

 - Play audio, it will come from speaker

 - connect the earphone, it will still play from speaker as the earphone is not recognized

 - after 20 sec, earphone may get detected.

 - if detected, then for 20 or more sec, there is no audio anywhere (neither speaker, nor in earphone)

 - after than only it may come to earphone

which means, even it is successful, it takes 45 sec to switch the earphone.

I had been discussing with dell for last 1.5 months. They have done all sort of things... driver update multipe times, HW replacement for the IO port, OS reinstallation (they asked me to do and I did), they have also got all kind of logs and escalated to level 3. But the issue is same.

Now they have started coming with lame solutions like time pass.... after logs they say My Dell application is not installed hence the issue. But that is proplery installed from day 1.

Some support person will turn up and will start giving solution without even knowing what is the actual issue. Even their supervisors say wait for 48hrs and we will get back with the soltion... actually no solution in reality.

I am totally fed up with this support (1.5 months and their lame solutions) hence writing here.

FYI.. this is still in warranty period.

Does anyone has any soltion? BTW, once I was able to install older driver from some dell page itself and that had worked better than this. But after restart the new audio driver comes back and hence the issue.

Any help from Dell users community is appriciated!

Hi all,

The new driver is now available for download: Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

Please install and let us know if that fixed the issue described on this topic.

Thanks!

Experiencing a delay of 50 seconds when switching audio output from speakers to headphones on your Dell Inspiron 14 7420 2-in-1 can be frustrating. There are several potential causes for this issue, and you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

  1. Update Audio Drivers: Outdated or incorrect audio drivers can sometimes cause delays in audio output switching. Visit Dell's official support website, enter your laptop's model, and download the latest audio drivers for your operating system.

  2. Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, system updates can resolve compatibility issues.

  3. Quick Audio Switching: Right-click on the audio icon in the Windows taskbar and select "Open Sound settings." Under the "Output" section, enable the "Switch to headphones when plugged in" option. This might help speed up the audio output switching process.

  4. Audio Device Configuration: Access the audio settings and make sure that the headphones are set as the default audio output device. This can prevent delays when switching.

  5. Check for Software Conflicts: Certain background applications or software might be causing conflicts with the audio switching process. Try closing unnecessary applications to see if the delay improves.

  6. Disable Audio Enhancements: Windows audio enhancements could potentially cause delays in audio switching. To disable them, right-click on the audio icon, select "Open Sound settings," click on "Sound Control Panel" on the right side, select your playback device, go to the "Enhancements" tab, and check the "Disable all enhancements" box.

  7. Third-Party Audio Software: If you're using third-party audio software, it could be causing the delay. Try uninstalling or disabling such software to see if the issue is resolved.

  8. Check for Background Processes: Background processes or services might be causing delays. Use the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to identify resource-intensive processes and close unnecessary ones.

  9. Malware Scan: Conduct a thorough scan for malware and viruses on your laptop. Malicious software can sometimes affect system performance.

  10. Hardware Inspection: If the issue persists, there might be a hardware-related problem. Test the headphones with other devices to ensure they are functioning properly. Additionally, you can try different headphones to rule out any issues with the headphone jack.

  11. Contact Support: If none of the above steps resolves the issue, it's a good idea to contact Dell's customer support for more specialized assistance. There might be specific solutions they can provide for your laptop model.

Remember to create a backup of your important data before making significant changes to your system settings or drivers.

Hi all,

For those experiencing audio issues, a temporary fix is available.

Downgrade your audio driver to version 6.0.9418.1, A19 by simply downloading the file (it will uninstall the newer version first, reboot and then install the version 6.0.9418.1, A19).

The long term fix is a new driver that should be released in December.
