I want to downgrade my Dell Inspiron 5570 bios from 1.14 to 1.1.8

As the title suggest is there any way to do it? since i'm worried about it bricking. Since after not realizing that windows update installed a bios update my games have been crashing and this is the last known bios version that doesn't do that. Is there a way to downgrade that far?

You will need to verify each BIOS firmware between 1.1.8 through 1.14.0 to see if any of them have downgrade restriction.  If there is, you can not downgrade lower than the restriction version.  If there is no restriction, you can proceed with downgrade.

UPDATE: For anyone who has been caught with this issue as well. I have successfully downgraded from 1.14 down to 1.2.5 then downgraded to 1.1.8.

From 1.14 I just used the exe file for the downgrade which you cannot do from 1.2.5 to 1.1.8. So this is the steps I took which worked.

Note: do this when you're at bios 1.2.5 just to make sure.

1.) Get a USB and format it with a FAT32 and download this Bios version 1.1.8

2.) Rename the file to BIOS_IMG.rcv (make sure you have file extenstion showed) and copy it in the USB.

3.) Shut down the laptop then pull out the charger cord.

4.) Hold ctrl+esc then plug in the charger cord (Do not press the power button while doing this).
5.) Click recover BIOS and wait for the update to complete then thats that.

It definitely was a risky route to take for me since there were no answers anywhere about this. But at least now I know it would be about safe to downgrade this way.

Thank you. I checked and it seems I can downgrade from 1.14 to 1.2.5 only tho after doing that there is no restriction in 1.2.5 for downgrading, so does that mean it is safe to do so from 1.2.5 to 1.1.8 after downgrading to 1.2.5?

Since there are too many versions of BIOS to look at, I can't tell you for certain.  If you already looked and knew the version 1.2.5 is the restricted version, that means you  can not downgrade to any lower than 1.2.5.

I meant like for example, I downgraded from 1.14 to 1.2.5 then checked if the version 1.2.5 has any restrictions which it doesn't have restrictions, will it be alright to downgrade once again from like 1.2.5 to 1.1.8?

No, you would get system error message when downgrading from 1.2.5 to 1.1.8.  But, you can always try.

A little question when I try to start the downgrade process from 1.2.5 to 1.1.8 it says unable to load SMBIOS Table. Should I do the process manually?

When I downgrade BIOS, I just verify in the BIOS settings for firmware downgrade option is enable.  Then I download the BIOS firmware to Download folder and double click to run.  Verify the popup box for info of firmware, ME, EC version and click to accept.  The system would reboot and the flashing process started.

Not sure how difference between the downgrade process you have done to get version 1.2.5 and the manual process that you are inquiring on.  BIOS flash is very important process and I want to fully understand so I don't make mistake when assisting you.

On another thought, I think you got the error that would not allow you to downgrade further from 1.2.5

No worries I understand that bios update/downgrades really is a stressful thing. Though I am facing an issue right now since windows is not letting me do the bios update since it says like "A driver cannot load on this device"(i dont have the screenshot for this since I forgot to do it and clicked do not show again) and this shows together with it.

I was considering doing the manual bios update which is the ctrl+esc method but I feel its too risky.

It's an expected result.  With research and prepare plan, you succeed with downgrade BIOS firmware for more than three years worth.  An attempt that users rarely would try.

Hey there!
I totally get your concern—BIOS updates can sometimes introduce unexpected issues, especially with stability in games.

Yes, in most cases, it is possible to downgrade your BIOS to a previous version, but it depends on your specific Dell model. Here's what you can try:

  1. Visit the Dell Support Website
Go to support.dell.com, search for your device using the Service Tag or model number, then click on the “BIOS” section. Older versions are sometimes listed under “View older versions.”

  2. Download the Target BIOS Version
Find the version that was stable for you and download the .exe file.

  3. Run BIOS Downgrade (with caution)

  • Make sure your laptop is fully charged and connected to power.

  • Close all programs and run the BIOS file as administrator.

  • Dell systems usually allow downgrades unless it's blocked for security or hardware compatibility reasons.

  1. Disable Windows Auto BIOS Updates
After downgrading, you can use Group Policy Editor or Registry Editor to prevent Windows from auto-installing BIOS updates again.

Important:
Downgrading BIOS carries some risk, so make sure the file matches your system exactly. If unsure, contact Dell Support directly or post your exact model here so others can verify compatibility.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes 😊
