GPU crashes on Dell G15 5530 / Geforce 4060 laptop GPU

I've had the laptop for 3 months but I have lately started to see GPU crashes mid game . Seems to be affecting some demanding games for the most part (total war titles , tempest rising) . Used to occur  in a while but now it jhappens 20 -30 minutes into a game. I get the following error message :
there is a problem with your graphics card . Please ensure your card meets the minimum system requirements  and that you have the latest drivers installed .

On occasion during that reboot I get a blue crash screen (details below)

Bug check code : 0x00000113

Bug check parameters :

  • 0x0000000000000019
  • 0x0000000000000002
  • 0x00000000000010de
  • 0x00000000000028e0

Device name: Watchdog Driver

Driver version: 10.0.26100.1882

Driver path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\watchdog.sys

Report id: a93e516e-698c-44d0-87fb-5151bcef50fc

When the error occurs it cuts off my external monitor and will only enable it if I restart the laptop .

I run the machine plugged in , with performance mode and all the fans on to cool the system . I have checked and I'm running the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia

Any ideas ?

I thought only me having this issue... Well, I am glad to know that this is not exactly my personal problem, looks like this is real issue with some driver(-s). I have G15 5530 almost 2 years and never had this issue, I always used Balanced mode in Alienware Command Center and everything always was okay in every game when I used Ultra settings. I even connected VR helmet and played in some VR games on High settings, everything worked properly. But I'll also mention the fact, the Balanced mode was a bit different before the end of April of this year, right now Balanced mode is the same as Performance, I don't see any difference. Same temperature for CPU and GPU, and working of the fans too, very strange... And I did try to download the old version of this app, nothing has changed. I don't think this is the problem of this app right now.

I have started to get the same problem just in the end of April, however, the first red flag was even in March and I didn't pay attention on that as this was just one time problem. Just reduced the settings from Ultra to High in game 'Gates of Hell: Ostfront'. I also didn't pay attention because I did play in Split Fiction on Ultra settings whole April and for some reason everything was perfect. I even used webcam in Discord, which is consuming a lot of resources too. At current moment, when I play, for example, Deep Rock Galactic, my screen turns black, GPU stops working, game crashes with error from Unreal Engine with 'GPU Crash dump Triggered'. After that, all apps which are for NVIDIA are not working/responding, only restart is fixing this problem. But even during the restart I am getting the blue screen, I can see the error in SupportAssist app and it is the same as you mentioned in your message.

Well, I can't advise how to fix this, I have installed all new drivers, tried reinstalling drivers for BIOS, NVIDIA and reverted back to check if this can help - no. Did try to work with PCI Express and Processor power management - no. Did check everything in BIOS and restored everything to default settings - no. Nothing is solving this problem and I don't think the DELL support can help with this now, because they are going to insist to do what I already mentioned and in the end they may advise to reset everything to default settings/reset Windows, I strongly doubt that this will help us in any way, and if it does, I am afraid it will only be temporary. Currently, I have only found a way to avoid this issue with GPU crashes a bit, just use Quiet mode in Alienware Command Center (for some reason this option is a bit close to old version of Balanced mode. not similar! only close to! I am getting much lower FPS - average 50) or reduce the settings in a game. I hope DELL will figure out that somewhere they have made a serious mistake with some drivers, and the will fix it. I remember in August 2024 I had serious issue after BIOS update, my laptop was very slow and was freezing when worked by battery. I did try to obtain any help from support, but the advise was to reset Windows to factory settings, very useful... I decided not to do this and after some time, about 2 months, I noticed that this problem just disappeared by itself. I don't know how, maybe updates could have fixed it. So, I suppose and hope this current problem will be solved by further updates from Windows, DELL and NVIDIA.

Same problem (in the order of black screen, dxgi_error_device_removed message, second monitor going off, bsod). Tried everything to no avail. Modified pci power, power plan and fan mode, modified registry entry for different tdr levels and durations, bios update, windows update, resetting to factory image, ddu + driver reinstall (all sorts of different drivers, old and new, from dell and from nvidia), underclock gpu, all sorts of tests of hardware of memory, cpu, both gpu's. this has been going on for about a year, and still no solution in sight.

thanks for the tip. I have been working on this for few days and I think I have managed to workout a working solution . I've limited the FPS  ( 70) to block the GPU from going  all out . I've updated aliwneware , internal graphics card and bios ( refreshed bios actually just in case) .  I have also downgraded the nvidia drivers to use the dell recommended version rather than the latest ones. SO far the only game that keeps giving me a hard time is total war warhammer 3 . The rest of games I tested this with were fine . Also , I do not think this is a problem with monitor / laptop screen. When I get the error message / crash it occurs regardless of video output . To me it looks like whatever update the gave devs has pushed out it is having a bad effect on GPU.  So far any other games have been fine since I carried out the mentioned changes

I decided to download Baldur's Gate 3 and check how my laptop can deal with it. I am a bit shocked, on Ultra settings with DLSS everything is working fine and stable. When I decided to start any game on Unreal Engine or Unity which is older that BG3, the games have a chance to crash and doesn't matter which settings I am using. I really don't know for now what is the problem, but seriously, why am I getting problems and blue screen of death when I play/played in such games like Deep Rock Galactic, Content Warning, Call to Arms - Gates of Hell, Palia? I don't know, maybe I don't understand something at all and missing something. But the driver updates are not fixing this issue and using the old drivers too, any scans or checks too. It's kind of crazy, to be honest.

@rafa001 just want to check, did you connect your laptop to any external storage device when this issue happens?

@DuHanQ In my case, I have encountered the same problem with or without the external drives connected.
