Drive not recognized
I'm trying to upgrade a Dell Inspiron 16 5620 (P117F). Everything went smoothly until I tried to install the operating system. The system doesn't 'see' the drive. I have roughly 25 years in hardware experience and I think this is the second time this has happened. Someone sent me a script to use at boot that allowed me to installed the operating system but I don't know if that is what is required this time.
Thanks

You need to pause the install with F6 when indicated and load the Intel RST driver (link below). On some systems, you can also disable RST in favor of AHCI mode, but this model is new enough that it may not have that option. You can check using F2 at powerup.

@ejn63 Thanks. I tried adding the .exe to the boot drive, pausing it at different spots. It 'runs' like it's doing something but the drive is still unrecognized.
I found a way to extract the drivers from the .exe file and put them on the boot drive. When I got to the blank screen, and had the option to load drivers, I chose browse, found the RST driver under VMD and told it to load that. Again, it looked like everything was working but the drive was still not available.
Could use more ideas. :-)

Are you using the latest Windows 11 install media?

To all that tried to help - thanks. I found a way. If you boot with the new drive installed and no operating system, you can have the option to restore your PC from the net. Unfortunately, it wasn't that simple.
I tried getting attached to my router but it said it couldn't find an IP address. I then added a network connection (Ethernet via USB cable) and the restore started to work.
Thanks again.
