Dell laptop slows down and freezes when processing large files in browser
Hi everyone,
I’m using a Dell laptop for regular work, and recently I’ve been facing performance issues when working with browser-based tools, especially while handling larger files. Whenever I try to upload or process files (like PDFs) using online tools I notice the following:
• System becomes noticeably slow
• Browser tabs start lagging or freezing
• Fan noise increases significantly
• Sometimes the browser becomes unresponsive for a few seconds
System Info:
• Dell Laptop (Inspiron series)
• OS: Windows 10 / 11
• Browser: Google Chrome
• RAM: 8GB (approx)
What I’ve tried:
• Closing background apps
• Updating Windows and drivers
• Running Dell diagnostics
• Clearing browser cache
• Testing on another browser
The issue seems more noticeable when working with larger files or multitasking.
Question:
Is this likely due to hardware limitations (RAM/CPU), thermal throttling, or something else specific to Dell systems?
Are there any recommended optimizations or settings to improve performance for such tasks?
Thanks in advance!

With only 8G RAM, that's one factor. Does the system run from a solid-state drive or a spinning hard drive (if the system has a spinning hard drive, that's another major factor).
It would help greatly to know what system model you're using (Inspiron 3501, 5593, etc.) as well, along with what CPU it has.
If the system is more than a year or two old, has it had internal maintenance (i.e., a thorough cleaning and replacement of the thermal pads that connect the heatsin(s) to the CPU and/or GPU?
There are browsers that are more efficient with memory than others -- Chrome and Edge aren't particularly memory efficient).
The type of Internet connection (wifi vs wired, and speed of the connection to the ISP) also plays a role.
