Dell G7 17 7700 Laptop going to sleep mode while in-game.

Hi,

Like many other people ; I have this issue where the laptop which is plugged goes to sleep because the system thinks the battery is extremely low. This happens mostly in-game (PUBG for me). It's very annoying. My system is up to date. Has anyone found a fix yet ?

powercfg -setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_BATTERY BATACTIONCRIT 0

It used to do it a lot more, I use this line of command to force the system to do nothing. It lowered the shut downs by about 95 % but it still does it I would say one time over a 5 hour gaming session which is still very annoying.

If anyone has a total fix, let me know.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Best regards.

As promised I make a little update about the problem.

The system crashed only one time over the past week, playing regularly several hours on PUBG (plugged on AC, temperatures all good...) for the same reason as above. Well, at least, it doesn't happen enough. In any case I strongly recommend updating BIOS to the lastest update and execute this command as admin :

powercfg -setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_BATTERY BATACTIONCRIT 0

Voilà, that's all I have to say. Thanks for reading.

Run a battery report -- open a command prompt with admin privilege and type

powercfg /batteryreport

What is the current charge capacity of the battery (NOT the current charge state!)?

DESIGN CAPACITY 97 003 mWh
FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 83 915 mWh

Wear level is at 14 %   I bought this PC almost exactly 3 years ago. So it's a normal wear level. But I get that it could come from that yes. Still, no a valid reason for the system to go into sleep mode thinking the battery level is at 1-5 %

I have just updated the Bios version. I will keep on testing the system while playing PUBG and will let everyone know how it goes.

The battery should have enough capacity, but it will be called into use during high demand, and if the shutdowns are happening when the system has been running in that state for awhile, it could be a low battery issue.  This system uses hybrid power -- the battery is used even when the system is run on AC power.

Next time, check the charge level of the battery upon the cutoff of the system -- if it's low, it is likely normal behavior for this model system.

@ejn63 Yes that's for sure. Though, the battery level is always shown at 100 % even on AC power. Just the battery has a bit of wear but it's normal since I have it for 3 years now. But I think it's just a system problem, maybe it was corrected with the latest BIOS updates. I just got the lastest BIOS update on my system now, so I am gonna post again maybe in a few days or weeks to keep everyone updated with the problem.

After testing for about 6 days and playing many hours on end on PUBG. The system has crashed only once. For the same reason as all the previous times. It seems to crash less with the BIOS updates, but it still does. That's unfortunate and can be very annoying.

PS ; I have just updated the BIOS to the latest version for my G7 17 7700 Laptop (1.29.0  ;   I had 1.25.0 right before that). Therefore, I'll give another update in about one week to see how it goes.
