Dell G5 5500 Back Lit Keyboard and Alienware Solution - Almost gave up going in Circles for months With Dell Support.

I was on premium support and my keyboard would intermittently skip on the "H" and "K" keys when pressed.   Passed the hardware test.   Spent hours.  Days.  Weeks. Months.   Problem never went away.  Got worse.  A year later, Premium support no longer available, I got only software support.  Got worse.  needed to press the "H" key 3 or 4 times.  Finally one day, the alienware backlit keyboard FX would flash error message and not stop.  Uninstalled Alienware.  Purchased aftermarket replacement RGB keyboard and replaced it myself.   Like Magic.  All the keys worked perfectly.  Now, no backlit keyboard, because I uninstalled the software.  But I have software support right ?  Does it work ?  Absolutely not.   Wasted hours.  Finally I pulled the ace card.  X Super Grok.   I asked my question and received the straightforward list of exactly what I needed to do the first time to clean, prepare, find and install the new alienware fx software.  It works better now then ever.  Honestly, I think I had some kind of defective keyboard when I purchased the laptop new and all of the premium support experts never identified or solved the problem.    I'd complain to Dell for wasting my money, but there isn't any place to do it.  So I'll do it here.   X Super Grok baby.  I'm renewing my subscription Elon.   Dell support has become so burdensome and time consuming.  Sometimes I believe that they try to wear you down on purpose so you will give up.

Hi

How much better than a free internet search?  Obviously you feel it's worth the £25 a month.

Alienware FX is the lighting control module within the Alienware Command Center (AWCC) software, which manages backlit keyboard customization on Alienware systems.

Follow these steps to clean uninstall old versions, download the latest compatible AWCC, and set up keyboard lighting.

Uninstall via Windows Settings > Apps > Search "Alienware Command Center" > Uninstall.

Run Win+R, type %appdata% and %programdata%, delete any Alienware folders; check C:\Program Files\Alienware (and x86) to delete Command Center folder; delete AlienFX folder in Documents.

Restart your PC; optionally use Dell SupportAssist or Revo Uninstaller for leftovers if issues persist.

Check the bottom sticker on your Alienware laptop, BIOS (F2 on boot), or run Command Prompt as admin: wmic bios get serialnumber.

Go to dell.com/support, enter your Service Tag or model (e.g., Alienware m16), select Application category, download Alienware Command Center 6.x full installer (latest as of 2025 addresses security fixes).

Avoid generic downloads; use Dell for model-specific version.

Double-click the .exe, install prerequisites if prompted, follow prompts, and restart when complete.

Launch AWCC; if AlienFX isn't enabled, right-click its tray icon > Enable Alienware AlienFX > restart.

Open AWCC > FX tab > Select your keyboard device > Choose effects (static, wave), colors, zones, brightness; save presets or themes.

Use Fn + Alien head key for quick on/off toggle. Test profiles for keyboard zones independently.
