Dell G16 7630 BIOS 0.1.26.1 Issues Preventing Shutdown

Since the update to BIOS v0.1.26.1 which I completed on the 6th of September, every time I have tried to shut my computer down it has taken a long time and caused the fans to spin very quickly then after it has shut down it restarts (i.e. it turns itself back on again).

I checked the bios event log and each time this has happened it has triggered a no POST recovery thermal event, as shown in the attached image.

This has never happened before the firmware update, so I went on the dell website to try and downgrade the BIOS to an earlier version, however the latest available was v0.1.22.0 from January and when I tried to install this it said the downgrade was blocked despite me having downgrades enabled in my BIOS.

Is anyone else having a similar issue and if so do you know how to resolve this or if there is a BIOS update that will fix the issue coming? Obviously I am quite concerned that repeatedly overheating during shutdown will damage my laptop hardware so I would like to find a solution as quickly as possible.

I have this problem too and have turned off the setting "Turn on fast startup", and similar BIOS settings. Still no luck. I'm also concerned that the laptop will be damaged if it continues to discharge and flatten the battery after every use

i had the same problem and thanks to your post and the fact that the Thermal Protection manager was the problem i fixed it by enabling the "PPI bypass" in the "security" section of the bios and it seem i can shut down my g16 now.

@tomtom-fr I've just had a go at that and it doesn't seem to be working for me. If I let it restart and then shutdown from the login screen I can generally manage to get it to shutdown but not always.

There is another thread where they are talking about this which I didn't notice when I first posted and a community manager has said their engineering team is looking into it, so hopefully they will fix it soon.

Hi everyone,

To resolve this issue, Dell has released an I-REV BIOS version that addresses the problems caused by the previous release.

Important Notes:

  • This I-REV BIOS is a corrective release intended to restore proper system functionality.
  • It is available only upon request through Dell Technical Support.
  • Because this version is considered a temporary solution, access requires signing a consent form, and the file must not be shared publicly.

How to Request the BIOS:

You can initiate a support request directly from the Dell Community by clicking the “Get Help Now” button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Please have your Service Tag ready and follow the steps with the Virtual Assistant to confirm your information and describe the issue.

If your system is out of warranty, there may be a delay in connecting with a live agent, as these cases require manual assignment. We kindly ask for your patience during this process.

If you encounter any difficulties getting an agent assigned, feel free to reply here and I’ll do my best to assist you.

Thank you all for your continued engagement and feedback!

I have found a minimally inconvenient process that allows me to shut down normally 99% of the time.

Before I want to shut down, I open the Dell Support Assist app and once it's open - I close it.  I don't run anything in it - just close it.   Then I go through the normal shut down process and I don't have the restart issue.

Some code in the Dell Support Assist app must negate/reverse whatever code is causing the restart issue. If I don't do this, I almost always have the restart issue.

@tomtom-fr Hi, I would like to know about your solution so I can apply it to my G16, with the car on.

Those who have the ability to reinstall Windows from a USB and manage to disable automatic Windows Update and automatic driver updates in Windows: can get the good result but they must then install the drivers from the official Dell website and only install what is necessary.

Haga clic derecho → Deshabilitar dispositivo → reiniciar

Desactivar Intel Speed Shift

Guardar y salir

1 is good for mi.
