Dell G15 5530 visual glitch with videos on Youtube, Netflix, LionsGate...

Hello guys,

I hope that you are doing well.

I bought a Dell G15 5530 which been delivered to me 2 weeks ago. I took the high end version with the 240hz screen and the Nvidia Geforce 3060. Globally, I am happy of the performance of the laptop over gaming, no problem.

However it's quite unstable for web browsing and more specifically with videos from diverse readers such as Youtube, Netflix or Lionsgate (others as well, but these are worst). I get random shapes in black appearing in the screen while reading the video in full screen. Triangles, rectangles, full black screen sometimes. I doesn't last long, less than a second, but it ruins the experience, specially for a laptop paid 1400€.

I Also got a bug at one moments where the colors were looking washed and dull. It disappeared after a restart of the laptop.

I already tried to uninstall and reinstall the last drivers of nvidia, every other drivers are up to date. I tried a lot of settings in the nvidia panel, 240Hz, 60HHz, with optimus, without, constantly on the Nvidia GPU. Nothing really did miracles. I would say though that it is worst in 240Hz. The weird point is that it isn't constant, it start to happen sometimes and when i restart the laptop it usually stops. To be notified as well that it occurs more strongly when I am browsing on the battery and a bit less when i am plugged on the charger (but still happening, just less)

Any idea of what's wrong and solution ? Or did you hear about similar other cases ? That's very frustrating

Thank you !

If you end up with the same problem guys, go on your chrome (or your borwser if you use another one) settings, look for the "hardware acceleration" setting and disable it. It seems that there is an uncompatibility between the hardware of the G15 and this option. After doing so, all bugs disappaered.

Have a good day :)

The Dell G15 5530 has been reported to have some visual glitches with videos on YouTube, Netflix, and LionsGate. These glitches can include:

  • Random shapes in black appearing on the screen
  • Triangles, rectangles, or even full black screens appearing for a second
  • Colors looking washed out and dull

These glitches can be caused by a number of things, including:

  • Incorrect graphics drivers
  • Faulty graphics card
  • Overheating
  • Software conflicts

To troubleshoot the problem, you can try the following:

  1. Update your graphics drivers. You can download the latest graphics drivers from the NVIDIA website or the Dell website.
  2. Restart your computer. This can often fix minor software glitches.
  3. Check your laptop's temperature. If your laptop is overheating, it can cause visual glitches. Make sure that your laptop is properly ventilated and that the fans are working properly.
  4. Disable any third-party software that you are not using. This can help to identify any software conflicts that may be causing the problem.
  5. Try a different video player. If you are still experiencing problems after trying the above steps, try using a different video player, such as VLC Media Player, to see if that resolves the issue.

If you have tried all of the above steps and the problem persists, you may need to contact Dell support for further assistance.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Keep your laptop's BIOS up to date. Dell releases BIOS updates on a regular basis that can fix various problems, including visual glitches.
  • Avoid using your laptop in dusty or dirty environments. Dust and dirt can clog the vents and cause your laptop to overheat.
  • Use a laptop cooling pad if you are using your laptop on a soft surface. This will help to improve airflow and prevent overheating.

Hello Anya,

Thank you for your answer. I did a checking for updates and from the Dell analyzer, I am fully up to date.

I term of temperatures, I thought about it as well but I followed it with HWMonitor, they are quite fine, in the average, nothing spectacular.

I tried to reinstall the Intel graphic drivers in a clean install yesterday night. I will monitor today if it solved the problem. I didn't see any glitch since then, but they sometimes stop and reappear later on, so wait and see.

I will keep you updated if I find a solution and in case someone else has the same problem, I guess that it would be interesting to report the solution, if I find one.
