Dell G15 5530 BIOS 1.30 – RTX 4060 GPU Power Limit Drop & FPS Fluctuations
Hello,
I am using an out of warranty Dell G15 5530 with RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, currently on BIOS version 1.30. After updating to this BIOS, I started experiencing a serious GPU power management issue.
Issue: GPU Power (Watt) Drop & FPS Fluctuations
• Before BIOS 1.30, GPU power usage in games was around 100–105W
• After BIOS 1.30, especially in Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ), GPU power drops to 60–70W during combat / heavy scenes
• As a result, FPS suddenly drops from ~120 to 90 / 60
• The issue is more noticeable in DX11 windowed mode
Temperatures & Utilization:
• CPU usage ~30%, temperature ~70°C
• GPU usage ~60%, temperature 60–70°C
• The system is not thermally limited, yet GPU power is being restricted
• On older BIOS versions, temperatures were higher but GPU power did not drop
Additional Information:
• NVIDIA drivers are up to date
• Windows power plan: High Performance
• Dell Power Manager: Ultra Performance
• Enabling “Smooth Motion” improves visual smoothness but does not fix the power/FPS fluctuation
• BIOS downgrade is not possible due to “Unsupported downgrade” error
• The same issue has been reported by other Dell G15 5530 and some Dell G16 users
This strongly looks like a BIOS 1.30 / EC firmware–related power limit behavior.
🔹 Question:
Is Dell aware of this issue, and is there any plan for an official BIOS or EC firmware update to fix the GPU power limit behavior?
If not, is there any recommended workaround?
If other users are experiencing the same issue, please reply and share your findings.
Thank you.

Haha, hello friend, to answer your question, you can type "DELL G15 5530 BIOS" in the Dell Community Inspiron section to check. There are many cases like yours, I had the same problem! Even from version 1.26.1 (currently version 1.26.1 has been removed from the website), Dell knows, they know very well, and their plan to fix this EC error is 100% certain they won't fix it! My condolences to you for updating to a new BIOS version.
