Dell G15 5530 Alienware Command Center fan speed control stopped working

Similar to this issue:

https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/inspiron/alienware-command-center-wont-open-fans-stopped-working-on-dell-g7-17-7790/647f9e11f4ccf8a8de29bebb

After the latest firmware and Windows updates,

Laptop - Dell G15 5530 (Intel i9-13900HX 2.2-5.2GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB, 64GB RAM, 1x1TB SSD 1x2TB SSD)

Firmware update - SK Hynix BC901 Solid State Drive Firmware Update - A04 - 21.19 MB

Windows update - MS Windows 10 Education version 10.0.19045 Build 19045

, my Alienware Command Center (ACC) tab for controlling and monitoring the temperatures and fan speed disappeared. (I only use the app for controlling and monitoring the fans speed)

I tried restarting (app and laptop), deleting the cache, and eventually reinstalling the ACC 2 times. (downloaded it from this link: https://www.dell.com/support/home/nl-nl/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=nt8c9)

The first time it didn't even show up anywhere so I uninstalled it.

The second time it worked but it has a weird glitch where it closes right after I open it, to which I tried playing around with its process in Task Manager (starting and deleting its processes multiple times) after which the app opens up, but it still doesn't show the fan controls tab.

Questions:

Do I try to reinstall the ACC again? (perhaps a different version if that's available)

Do I revert my Firmware / Windows update? (which I'm not sure is an option since I didn't have a backup of the Windows version and I don't know where to get the previous firmware version from)

Is there another app that I can use instead for controlling my laptop fan speeds?

(I just realized I'm using BitLocker so I'll also see if that's the problem, although it shouldn't be since I'm installing the app on the C:/ drive, which is not encrypted (D:/ is not encrypted, E:/ (partitioned) is encrypted). I'm still posting this since that's unlikely to be the problem, will write an update)

The solution for this is either trying to swap SSDs / RAM (i'm probably upgrading my SSD soon so will find out about that) or the proven solution, which I'm currently using: Just disable most boost / turbo thread and whatnot other overclocking options there are in the bios - performance settings. Not sure which setting exactly is connected to this but will update here if I find out. It's a bit of a shame not to use my laptop to its fullest potential, but at least I can finally not be afraid that I'm going to loose all of my work randomly and constantly CTRL+S in every program, or be annoyed at browser pages randomly disapearing on me every few minutes.

Nope, still the same problem after reinstalling it from a different drive (without BitLocker)

The ACC closes right after I open it multiple times and then after like the 5/10th time it decides to work but then it still doesn't give me access to the fans speed.

I've also looked into other app solutions but there isn't one that works for me (also tried the "Dell Power Manager")

So any help is highly appreciated! I want to be able to manually put on my laptop fans on 100% speed when playing or rendering something. Before this had happened I used the shortkey "f9" to turn on the manually adjusted settings for the fans speed to go to 100%, but this doesn't work anymore.

Soluition:

1. Uninstall All that is Alienware Command Center from your computer (might be a bit hard to completely remove it, but online there's examples) and restart it.

2. Open the Support assist and scan for updates (the Alienware Control Center should show-up)

3. Download and install the updates, then restart your PC.

4. Open Alienware Control Center, go to the "settings" tab and click on "check for updates"

5. Download and install the updates from within Alienware Control Center

6. Done! Fan controls show up and work again! (even with the custom options)
(probably works now due to the latest version released recently)

Here I am again... apparently this has been only temporarily fixed... I posted this on reddit (r/Alienware)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/1bnopj0/comment/kwm3z48/

, but I'm posting the same thing here as well...

I have a laptop Dell G15 5530 with pretty high specs (got it the beginning of September 2023), which apparently still uses the Alienware Command Center for fan controls.
At first, when I got the laptop everything was working amazingly and as expected, including the Alienware Command Center. On the app, I could control my fan speed profile and even set a custom one if I desire to. Since I'm doing video rendering, C++ compiling, Game building, and other similar kind of heavy-load (performance-heavy) tasks, I really enjoyed the option to crank-up the fan speed to 100% whenever I'm doing those things for a few minutes, sometimes up to 20-30 minutes at a time. Even got myself an "iets gt500" laptop cooler so I am ensuring that the heavy tasks are performed as quickly as possible with my laptop running as cold as possible.
However, that lasted only a few months and in mid January 2024 the option to control the fans using "Alienware Command Center" just disappeared. (you can check the Dell forum post here: https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/inspiron/dell-g15-5530-alienware-command-center-fan-speed-control-stopped-working/65a809b8379f0127c22edf89 )
After trying out some things, but also leaving it alone for a few weeks I am not sure if I, myself managed to fix it or if it got fixed by itself due to the latest released version. However, I still posted about it on the forum (check the link above), since those were the exact actions I took with the outcome of it being fixed (the performance tab is showing on the Alienware command center and I was able to choose a fan speed via the GUI or by pressing the shortcut "f9")
But at the end of the day around 1 month after I encountered this issue, it got resolved.
Since February 16th everything has been working flawlessly again. That is until now. Today I was rendering a video and as I usually do I pressed "f9" while rendering it, but nothing happened. I opened up the Alienware Command Center to see if I could turn up the fan speed and long and behold the Performance tab has vanished again! I cannot control the speed of my laptop fans...
If anyone has any clue or suggestions or anything, please let me know how to put an end to this. Perhaps a 3rd party software? or a funky Windows / BIOS setting or software version?
Inlcuded screenshots:
Screenshot of when it doesn't work and you can't see the Performance tab
Screenshot of when it works and You can see thermals and change fan speeds

It seems like this time only updating my Windows to the latest version + repairing the AWCC with the first option (Add packages) is what fixed it. I have control over the fans again!

@Deyer4o Hello, how are you? I have a question. How did you solve this problem? I already installed, uninstalled, and deleted all the Alienware files from my computer. I even installed a clean version of Windows on my computer, and it still doesn't seem to work.

@Jorge Medina Yeah.. it's a no-no I just left it as it is, I recently upgraded to Windows 11 and since then I haven't installed it back. But seemingly it just stops working after a windows update or 2 and you have to reinstall the drivers and then it works again until the next update, so it's quite fragile.

Also since we're here, do you happen to have "access violation" and Blue Screens randomly or is it a problem only on my laptop? Even a clean windows reinstall didn't help, non of the tests showed anything wrong only thing left to try is swapping the SSD. Do let me know if you had any problems like that since you have the same laptop.

Otherwise for the fans control, I remember there were 3rd party tools available for it but again, you might need to tinker with drivers. It's also good double checking I think there was a setting in the BIOS for it, fan control might just be disabled...

Regardless, best of luck troubleshooting! :P
