Dell G15 5530 (2024) randomly freezes during normal work.
I purchased a Dell G15 5530 (Core i5, 2024 model) in March this year.
A few weeks after purchase, I upgraded the RAM to 32GB and installed Windows 11 Pro.
Everything was working fine until about two months ago, when I started experiencing random system freezes. The laptop would suddenly hang, sometimes with a brief screen blink or flicker, and I’d be forced to shut it down using the power button. This issue has since become more frequent and disruptive.
Initially, I suspected the problem was related to memory. I ran Dell’s built-in diagnostics, but the system froze during the memory test, showing some strange screen artifacts (horizontal lines).
Thinking it might be a faulty RAM stick, I tested each module separately, swapped slots, and ran MemTest86 for several passes. However, all tests came back clean, and the issue persisted even with one stick removed.
I then updated everything I could, including the BIOS (currently on version 1.23.0) and all available Windows updates.
I also tried switching apps between the Intel iGPU and the NVIDIA GPU, turned off Variable Refresh Rate, HDR, and Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, but none of this helped. The freezing still occurs, both in Windows and sometimes even during low-level diagnostics like Dell’s ePSA memory test.
At this point, I’m not sure if the issue is due to a BIOS bug, faulty shared memory used by the iGPU, or a motherboard-level problem like a bad memory controller or GPU path.
Since the system freezes even outside of Windows and shows graphical artifacts, I’m leaning toward a hardware fault.
Has anyone else faced this kind of problem on a G15 5530 recently? Is BIOS 1.23.0 known to cause instability, or should I contact Dell support for a possible motherboard replacement?
I have uploaded a picture of what happedn during the ePSA test here: https://ibb.co/8gdcChbD
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
To resolve this issue, Dell has released an I-REV BIOS version that addresses the problems caused by the previous release.
Important:
The I-REV BIOS is a corrective version that replaces the previous one and restores proper system functionality. It is available upon request through Dell Technical Support. Access to this version requires signing a consent form, as the file is considered a temporary solution and must not be shared.
To proceed, please contact Technical Support by clicking Get Help Now in the bottom-right corner of this page.

I have the same problem. Also went through everything and started MemTest86 scan. While it does it thing I found this post. My next thing I'm going to try is boot Linux. If it still freezing then it must be hardware issue. The only thing to note is I have the i7-13650hx cpu.
please tell me you found a solution

@UserG3Gaming, I think this is the problem with the new BIOS. I check the Windows Event Viewer, I am getting this error of KERNEL POWER-41 with description "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
Now I am hardly using the laptop due to frustration of hanging in between the work.
What I did that I just installed the stock RAM and remove the G-Skill RAMs. The system was working fine for 1 hour, but I am planning to check it for more than 1 hour.
I fed up using the system. I bought it excitedly and ended up in frustration

@mrammarbukhari thank you for the reply
I'm also thinking of just getting new laptop. But I'm first going to try that l-REV bios Dell support is talking about.

@UserG3Gaming I got the I-REV bios, but the problem is that the downgrade is blocked by 1.23 version BIOS version even if you have allowed it in the BIOS settings.
I think we need to do a CMOS reset. Let me know the procedure if you got one and downgraded the current BIOS

Could I get the I-REV BIOS from Dell USA support?
I bought the G15 55300 notebook from Dell Brazil and upgraded the memory to 2x16GB Corsair 4800MHz and I'm having the same problem, but Dell Brazil support doesn't provide the BIOS version.

@Imenso
Dell Brazil is also sharing the I-REV BIOS version. I’ve had a few Community users from Brazil confirm they were able to obtain it.
Here's what we can do:
Click on the Get Help Now icon located at the bottom right corner of this page and follow the instructions. Be sure to provide your Service Tag, describe the issue clearly, and complete the support intake process.
Once you receive a case number, please share it with me here so I can escalate it appropriately.

@DELL-Nat M Hey Nat, I have the same problem as @Imenso . I've already reached support and I have the case number 214354197. I've checked the Event Viewer and there's a kernel problem. Can we proceed to me getting the BIOS file? Thank you very much for your time.

@Imenso
Hi, I think you should try using 5200MHz sticks. I installed the stock 8GB RAM and purchased another 8GB crucial 5200MHz matching the configuration to the stock RAM. So far I am not facing the problem of random stuck. However sometimes mouse cursor freezes and I have to logout and login back again.

@DELL-Nat M
Dell Brazil support asked me to return to the original memory and rerun the test. I returned to the original memory this weekend, and of course, there's no problem with the original memory.
Dell Brazil support said the problem is with the purchased memory (but any purchased memory from Corsair, Kingston, Adata, or XPG causes the problem).
Dell Brazil support still won't provide the BIOS I-REV with the fix.
Can you help me?

@mrammarbukhari The equipment manual indicates 4800mhz and not 5200mhz.
The issue occurs because some memory modules force an automatic profile with voltage and latency outside of the JEDEC standard. Dell's BIOS detects this as an overclocking attempt and freezes or reboots the system as a safeguard.

@Imenso .. you see thats the problem, I also checked the user manual and bought the stick set. I installed 2 4800 MHz of RipJaws 16GB and ended up to system freeze even with turning off the over-clock. But now when I installed the crucial 5200 MHz system is working fine, for now at least.
