Dell g15 5511 Ram Upgrade Compatibility
Dell G15 5511
Hi, I want to upgrade my 2x8GB rams to 1X8GB and 1x16GB by replacing only one 8GB ram card. Is this combination compatible with Dell G15 5511?
Thank you

@Chino de Oro
But the setup specifications don't included this combination. https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/g-series-15-5511-laptop/dell-g15-5511-setup-and-specifications/memory?guid=guid-e9d2ea83-38a4-431d-803c-96d63c1dbc34&lang=en-us

It is not a supported memory configuration but I think it will work. However, it will not run in dual channel.
Check Crucial RAM for guarantee support https://eu.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/dell/dell-g15-gaming-(5511)

@Chino de Oro Thank you. But as my knowledge dual channel mode can still be enabled, but it may run in "flex mode". 8GB from the 16GB card will match with the 8GB card and run in dual-channel mode. The remaining 8GB from the 16GB card will run in single-channel mode. isn't it??

The DIMM needs to have both the same size and speed (MHz) to fully function to their max. If not the cpu will just assume the slower smaller one. You usually cant get the fully size of the larger one and also it WILL make it only as fast as the smaller one. The motherboard documentation and specs will inform you of DIMM locations for duel channel or triple/quad if supported. Most importantly it will tell you what the max MHz DIMM BUS frequency aka the max speed of the DIMM that can be supported. Find the DDR3 i think for the G15 5511 that matches that MHz and thats how you max out your DIMM DDR BUS speeds.
