DA305 USB-C Adapter keeps disconnecting and showing “Unknown USB Device

Hi everyone,

I bought the Dell 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter (DA305) last year, and it’s been acting up quite a bit. Several times a day it randomly disconnects, cutting off my external monitor and ethernet connection. I also keep hearing the Windows "device connected" sound throughout the day, even when I’m not touching anything.

When it does connect, it often adds a device called “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)”.

I’ve already tried updating drivers, uninstalling the device, and reinstalling, but the issue keeps happening.

Has anyone faced something similar or found a fix?

Thanks in advance!

Click here for Troubleshooting and resolving issues with the Adapter.

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.
Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

I had no luck with the Troubleshooting Tool. All drivers are already up to date. I also reached out to Dell "Customer Success", but they declined to assist me since I’m currently located outside the USA.
