computer don't go to windows

Hello,

I didn't launch my pc since a while. An INSPIRON I7 7779

Here, my computer don't load to windows anymore, it stays in support assist menu where i tried all the options available. I tried to reset but then i have "reset failed". I tried a scan and it says there is a problem with hard drive.

I tried to restore settings in bios then nothing change.

I just want to restore my pc to basic state and it's ok to reset all the data,i can't just do that.

Can someone help me?

Thanks

Axelie

Here the picture of support assist i tried

Your hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced before you can reload Windows.

The system will take one M.2 SATA (not NVMe) solid state drive and one 2.5" SATA hard drive or SSD.  You'll need to see which drive(s) you have and which has or have failed before proceeding.

First thing to do is look inside the system (or in setup, F2 at powerup) to see what drive(s) is (are) installed.

Service manual for your system is here.

Hi

Assuming the CMOS coin cell cell battery is still functioning, AND the hard drive "type" is still correct (not set at RAID, when it should be AHCI or vice versa) then it may be possible to recover data and documents.

Using your MS account find the BitLocker key (48 characters long) and use something like Linux MINT on a USB stick.

If in doubt please ask.

I have a 512 GB HDD micron 1100 SATA for SATA-0 and in SATA-1, it's "none" so i guess i have only 1 drive?

Sounds like that's correct.  You can run the Dell diagnostics on the SSD (F12 at powerup to access) to confirm the failure.  If the drive fails the diagnostics, you'll need a new M.2 SATA SSD.

Even if the drive does pass, it's getting on in years - if you plan to use the system for some time to come, replacing it would still be a good idea. The issue with this system is that it is not supported by Windows 11 (officially for now, and at all in the future), so it may be time to consider a replacement system.

Hi

You may be daunted by the piccies posted below, or have no data of value to recover, but if in doubt please ask.

You would first want to replace the faulty drive, then consider recovery.

So i guess i have to change the hard drive? Can you tell me how i can know if a hard drive is compatible with my inspiron?

Do you know if it's possible to keep my windows 10 license without having to buy another?

You need a new M.2 2280 SATA drive.  Just install Windows 10 after creating install media using the MS Media Creation tool.  It will automatically activate when you go online with the system.

Ok, it's weird because the hard drive i have is this one https://www.amazon.com/Dell-SSDR-Micron-1100-CYNJD/dp/B0966JHLPG but when i search "M.2 2280 SATA drive", i find these https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ssd/kingspec-disque-ssd-interne-nt-series-1-to/f-10703-kin6950509900179.html#mpos=0|mp

It's not the same aspect and connection board, is it normal?

You can use either an M.2 (card) or 2.5" SATA (the one you posted).

I would look at Samsung or Western Digital (or Crucial/Micron) before buying a no-name drive.

@Axelie

Hi

The amazon is ...

Digital Storage Capacity 512 GB
Hard Disk Interface Serial ATA
Connectivity Technology SATA
Brand Dell
Special Feature Portable
Hard Disk Form Factor 2.5 Inches
Compatible Devices Desktop

It has the words "portable" and "desktop" so it may not be truly compatible.

The DELL spec is

Solid-state drive

M.2 drive

2.5-inch drive

much like the examples I gave earlier.
I honestly do not know which Dell has installed.
