Black screen after supportassist

Inspiron 15 3520

Inspiron 15 3520

Received a new computer yesterday.  Did the normal welcome stuff.  Everything ok.  Ran supportassist in preperation of using PCmover.  Supportassist had 7 updates...ran them all and upon install the screen went black.....but the mouse arrow is visible and moves.  Forced off and then on...no change.  Forced off (I believe since I cannot see anything on the screen) and the mouse arrow disappears...then a few moments later comes back on?

And I find that Dell has done away with 24-7 support for machines under warranty.

Note to Dell:   My business and family have seven (7) Dell computers and laptops.  This last one may be exactly that, the last......a very disappointed very long time customer.

End of rant!!!

With the power disconnected, hold the power button for 30 sec or until the system completely shuts down.  Then plug in the AC adapter and try restarting.

@ejn63 Seems the 7 updates were conflicting with each other.  Following your recommendations, the bios update started.  After completed, the computer indicates it has several more updates to do...in progress as I post.

Thanks.

Hope all is good after this session.

@rpags Follow on to my previous post.....thanks.  Your suggestion did work 100%.

FWIW I used PCmover after uninstallling all (I thought) of the 'free' (for 30 days) Office 365.  Seems there are bits and pieces of Office 365 embeded in new computers and PCmover was prevented from moving my old version Office.  Happily I have the original disk and was successful in loading the older version of Office.  All files had moved over so the family is happyl
