Battery problem
Hi all. This morning an Amber light began to flash continuously on our Dell Inspiron 15 5000 when the cable/charger was plugged in. When removing the cable the computer crashes immediately indicating it will not run on battery power. Does this mean the battery is no good or could there be another problem? Thank you.

Capacity remaining simply means the battery is 99% charged, but that's 99% of half of the design capacity of the battery. And the flashing amber LED almost certainly means either one or more of the cells is dead of old age, or that the mainboard in the battery (the battery control board) is faulty.

It depends on the model and flash pattern -- need the former (Inspiron 5593, 5401, etc.) first.
Under Windows, open a command prompt with admin privilege and type
powercfg /batteryreport
What are the design and current capacity figures for the battery?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. It's an Inspiron 5567. If I'm reading it correctly the battery report says its 99% currently. Design capacity is 41,998 mWh, full charge capacity 21,706 mWh.

Meant to say; there is no pattern to the flashing, it's just continuous.

No -- the capacity remaining 21706/21998 *100 or just over 50% of the design capacity. If it's a continuous amber flash:
Unplug the system, remove the base cover and disconnect the battery from the system board. Hold the power button for 30 sec. Reverse: reconnect the battery and replace the cover. If the problem isn't solved, you need a replacement battery.

When the report was generated it says capacity remaining 99% 21,478mWh.
I may try what you suggest but will probably take it to our local computer repair shop as it involves removing the cover and disconnecting the battery. Thanks for your help.
