Battery not charging-AC Adapter wattage cannot be determined. The battery may not charge.

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-3567 laptop.

For the last two months, when i turn it on, i get a warning saying:

"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available."

I am using the original dell charger that came with the laptop. The battery only works when plugged in and it shows 0% charge or nothing at all.

I bought a new battery to gix this issue but even after using the new battery i get the same warning and the laptop does not charge. I tried updating the BIOS to fix this but during the update i get another message saying:

" The battery must be charged above 10% before tge system BIOS can be flashed" .

Because the battery doesn' t charge, i am stuck and can' t continue the update.

Please help me fix this issue.

The usual cause is a bad DC plug or DC jack.  Try a new OEM Dell adapter first - if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:

If that doesn't result in a recognized adapter, the mainboard is bad.  Only you can decide whether the system is worth that repair - - bear in mind the value of the system is well under $100 at this point.

This is not a firmware issue -- no update will fix it.  It's a hardware problem.

It seems like your Dell Inspiron 15-3567 is having trouble with charging, and it could be an issue with the charging circuit or BIOS. Here’s what you can try:

  1. Reset the Battery Connection:
Turn off the laptop, unplug the charger, and take out the battery. Hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any leftover power, then put the battery back and plug in the charger. Check if it starts charging.

  2. Try a Different Charger:
Even if you're using the original charger, it could be faulty. If you have another compatible Dell charger lying around, try using that to see if it works.

  3. Check the Charging Port:
Look at the charging port for any damage or dirt that could be causing issues. If there’s any debris, carefully clean it out.

  4. Update the BIOS:
Since the BIOS update is blocked because the battery isn't charged, try using Dell's BIOS recovery method. Download the latest BIOS version from Dell’s website, put it on a USB drive, and then power off the laptop. Press Ctrl + Esc and power it on to enter recovery mode and complete the update.

  5. Test Without the Battery:
Remove the battery entirely and run the laptop just on AC power. If it works fine, the issue might be with the battery or the charging circuit.

If none of these work, it could be a motherboard issue, so it might be time to contact Dell support.
