Backlit keyboard

G15 5521 BACKLIT KEYBOARD

Have had the laptop for less than a week. Backlit was working for 2 days then stopped. Bios setting and Alienware setting changes do not fix the the issue. Next step suggestion?

If the system came direct from Dell, return it for refund or replacement.  If it came from another seller, you'll have to ask about their return policy.

Is it possible that you accidentally turned off the backlight? There will be a secondary function on a function key that toggles it on and off. Look for the backlight symbol on your function keys. It looks as though it may be on the F5 key, so try pressing F5 or Fn F5.

Since the backlit keyboard was working for 2 days and then stopped, it is likely that there is a hardware issue with the keyboard. Here are some things you can try to fix the issue:

  1. Check the keyboard drivers. Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your keyboard. You can download the drivers from the Dell website.
  2. Restart your laptop. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix the issue.
  3. Update your BIOS. A newer BIOS version may have a fix for the issue. You can update your BIOS from the Dell website.
  4. Reset the BIOS. Resetting the BIOS to factory defaults may fix the issue. You can reset the BIOS from the Dell SupportAssist app.
  5. Contact Dell support. If you have tried all of the above and you are still having the issue, you may need to contact Dell support for further assistance.

Here are some additional tips for fixing a backlit keyboard issue:

  • Check the keyboard connections. Make sure that the keyboard is properly connected to the motherboard.
  • Inspect the keyboard for damage. Look for any physical damage to the keyboard, such as cracks or loose keys.
  • Replace the keyboard. If the keyboard is damaged, you may need to replace it.

fn - F5 does nothing. Should turn on/off backlit keyboard. F5 just refreshes the page. I will try a BIOS reset and look for drivers before contacting Dell. As suggested below. Thanks so much to all for the timely replies.
