As soon as I plug RJ45 adapter USB-C DA200 laptop crashes with blue screen - inspiron 17-7778

Hi, all of a sudden, I started having issues with my network connection. Since I purchased this laptop, as it has no RJ45 connection, I purchased Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 DA200  to be able to connect to my network with cable.

Then  inspiron started crashing (blue screen), when I check Bluescreen report I see

Wdf01000.sys Wdf01000.sys+58a44 fffff802`38fe0000

This means mainly there is an issue with one of the drivers onm the laptop.

I run del diagnostic (reboot the F12) all tests pass and are in green state. I rebooted the laptop without the DA200 plugged, laptop works normally and I am able to log to my machine. I tried again plugging the DA200 laptop crashed right away.

I am not able to or how to check if it is a driver issue or the adapter itself has an issue. How can I proceed? Thanks in advance

Hi

So the internet has lots of answers, and I have selected the following (hope it helps) ...

  • Open Device Manager.

  • Expand Network adapters and Universal Serial Bus controllers.

  • Right-click the USB Ethernet adapter and choose Uninstall device.

  • If offered, tick Delete the driver software for this device.

  • Reboot, then reinstall the newest driver from the adapter vendor or PC vendor.

(Install the latest Dell support package for the DA200 and, if Dell provides it, the matching Realtek USB Gigabit Ethernet driver.  Plug the DA200 back in and test just one function at a time: Ethernet first, then video, then USB pass-through.)

If your adapter is a Realtek-based USB GBE device, use the vendor’s or system maker’s current Realtek USB GBE Ethernet driver rather than a generic Windows one. If it is a TP-Link adapter, TP-Link says UE300 is generally plug-and-play but recommends updating to the latest driver if it is not working correctly.

Run these in an elevated Command Prompt:

text
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth sfc /scannow

These checks are commonly recommended for Wdf01000.sys-related instability and can fix corrupted Windows components that interact badly with device drivers.

  • Try a different USB port, preferably a rear motherboard port on a desktop.

  • Avoid unpowered hubs and front-panel ports for testing.

  • Update your chipset and USB controller drivers from the PC or motherboard vendor.

  • In Power Options, disable USB selective suspend and test again.

  • If this is a dock or multiport adapter, update the dock firmware and driver package too.

  • Test the adapter on another PC to prove whether the adapter is bad.

  • Test a different USB Ethernet adapter on your system.

  • Roll back the adapter driver if the issue started after an update.

  • As a last step, use System Restore to go back before the problem started.

Given that it happens when plugging in the USB-to-RJ45 device, the most likely cause is a bad or incompatible USB Ethernet driver, commonly Realtek-based or dock-related, rather than a fault in Wdf01000.sys itself.

@anne_droid Also, when I rinn

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth sfc /scannow

I get

Error: 87

DISM doesn't recognize the command-line option "sfc".
For more information, refer to the help by running DISM.exe /?.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Are those 2 different comands should be run one after the other?

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

sfc /scannow

Hi

Try them separately, and sequentially.

No you don't, nor did I think so.

The reference is to try those drivers, if the DELL one is not automatically detected.

3rd attempt

I suspect the Main Board may be at fault.

Just to certain, the DA200 has no fault or error when it is plugged in.

It is the additionof the network cablethat causes the fault?

AND when you tested with another machine you also used the same network/ethernet cable and it was problem free?

You need to be more exact in your description.

I wish you luck.

I suspect the Main Board may be at fault.

  • The Dell DA200 firmware update utility: DA200 FW Updater-FW206-v2.1.1.2_7W38G.zip. Dell says to disconnect all devices/monitors from the adapter, run the updater, then reconnect it and restart if required.

  • The DA200 drivers/downloads page on Dell’s support site, which is the official place to check for any current packages for this adapter.

 Fourth posting attempt.
