After locking the laptop at the end of the day, the next morning the laptop won't display on the external screen.
After locking the laptop at the end of the day, I usually have the disconnect all my external devices and open the laptop to get it going and then reconnect everything. This did not happen with my 20 year old Inspiron. Any ideas are welcome.

Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.

Let me muse a moment...
It is suggesting that something is either failing POST, and/or upsetting the BIOS and boot sector on the storage device.
Has it ever worked as you wanted?
Can you list all the external devices, like a Monitor or keyboard or docking station please.
