Adapter error
"Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.” Is the message I get when I turn on my computer. This appears to be a laptop issue, but I have a Dell Desktop All in One. Inspiron 7700.

First thing to try would be a new, OEM Dell AC adapter. Match the capacity to the one you now have:

If that doesn't solve the problem, it doesn't appear this system has a replaceable DC jack, so it'll mean replacing the main system board.

If you are encountering an "Adapter Error" on your Dell laptop, it could indicate an issue with the power adapter or the laptop's charging circuitry. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Check the Power Adapter: First, ensure that the power adapter is properly connected to both the laptop and a functional power outlet. Verify that the power adapter's LED (if it has one) is lit and not showing any signs of damage.
Use a Different Outlet: Sometimes, the issue might be with the power outlet. Try plugging the power adapter into a different outlet to see if it resolves the problem.
Inspect the Power Cable: Examine the power cable for any visible signs of damage or fraying. If you notice any issues with the cable, consider replacing it with a new one from Dell or a reliable third-party source.
Check the Laptop's Charging Port: Ensure that the charging port on your laptop is clean and free from any debris. Sometimes, dirt or dust can interfere with the connection and cause charging issues.
Perform a Power Reset: Shut down your laptop, unplug the power adapter, and remove the laptop's battery (if it's removable). Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Then, reconnect the battery (if removable), plug in the power adapter, and try turning on the laptop.
Update BIOS and Drivers: Outdated BIOS or drivers can sometimes cause charging problems. Visit Dell's official support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.
Run Diagnostics: Dell laptops often have built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware issues. Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually F12) during startup to access the diagnostics menu. Run the diagnostics to check for any hardware-related problems.
Test with Another Adapter: If possible, try using another compatible Dell power adapter. If the error goes away with the new adapter, it's likely that your original adapter needs to be replaced.
Contact Dell Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's best to contact Dell's customer support or visit an authorized Dell service center for further assistance. They can help you diagnose the specific problem and provide a solution.
Remember that handling power-related issues can be potentially hazardous, so if you are unsure or uncomfortable performing any of these steps, it's best to seek professional help to avoid any damage to your laptop or risk to your safety.
