Will 242mm GPU fit inside Inspiron 3847?
I'm looking toward the 8 GB RX570 to upgrade in my Dell Inspiron 3847. However, most manufacturers are 242mm length for the card. I'm wondering whether that'll fit in my case. Also, I have a 500W PSU, and need help figuring out if that's enough to power the 8 GB variant.

What brad(technut) had pointed out that 3847 metal chassis actually is identical to Optiplex 7010 7020 MT etc, which I had confirmed by direct comparison of the two side by side. I have both
therefore use the max gpu length for 7010 and 7020 as good reference
max is 254 mm
”Out of the box 3020, 7020, and 9020 have no more than 10 inches (25.5 cm) of free space for dedicated graphics cards. To be on the safe side the maximum GPU length you can use on OptiPlex 3020, 7020, and 9020 is between 9.5 and 10.0 inches. Everything above that calls for drive bay removal. Removing the bay will free space and give you the option to use a proper (long) size version of the GPU.
500w psu is good enough for RX570. It is more than enough for RX580
Load Wattage: 390 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 440 W

@redxps630 So I don't have to do any bay or any hardware tweaks to fit the dual fan RX570 which is around 250mm then correct? I was starting to look at the single fan RX570 variant, but if the dual fan works just fine, I think that's a better purchase?

No more than 10 inch is good.

@redxps630 Last question, is it better to go for a single fan RX570 with 8 GB VRAM or dual fan RX570 with 4 gb VRAM? The single fan is well within the card limits and has higher vram.

Higher VRAM. This is a medium range gpu so you don’t need to be over concerned of power or heat. The manufacturer that designed single fan gpu has the cooling efficiency taken into account. 3 vs 2 vs 1 fan are more marketing hype than actual substantial difference.

@redxps630 Thank you for the update man. I am getting the 4 gb variant for half the price (40 CAD) while the 8 gb at 80. Is it worth the double price for double the vram?

It depends on the game, settings and resolution you play. 4k monitor minimum 8GB vram (16 is better).
The minimum VRAM required for 4K gaming depends on the graphics card, but most modern graphics cards have at least 8 GB of VRAM.
