Why does USB work in Inspiron 3668
This is related to my previous post titled “Finding and Installing Controller Drivers”. Somehow it got coded as being “Solved” but it isn’t. Maybe I coded this accidentally myself.
It is claimed that DELL does not have drivers (specifically USB and what is needed for internet access) for the Inspiron 3668. I bought the computer around 2018 or earlier. The short instruction booklet that came with it said UBUNTU could be installed. I installed it. I have been told UBUNTU reformats the hard drive, but USB and internet works. If DELL does not have Win 7 drivers for this computer, why does this stuff work in UBUNTU? Does the UBUNTU installer provide its own drivers in the non-NTFS format that it needs, or did DELL provide the drivers for UBUNTU?
I know many computer users feel they need to be up to date on operating systems and other things. However, this is not always needed and if it is not needed, why upgrade and cause oneself problems? An example is what happened to an astronomy associate. He bought a DELL with Win 11. When I bought my DELL a few years back I paid extra to get Win 10 because I read there were hardware related issues with Win 11. The astronomy associate could not get Win 11 to operate his telescope and cameras. He junked it (put it in a corner) and bought another computer with Win 10 on it.
I’m still striving to get Win 7 drivers on the Inspiron. Maybe they do not exist and if it is definite that they do not exist then I’ll have to try something else, maybe go back to UBUNTU.
Finally, what am I doing wrong with this forum? I created a password yesterday, but today when I logged in it again sent me an email with a six number code. Does it do this all the time?

Re: today when I logged in it again sent me an email with a six number code
we all have this requirement. it is a second step verification security feature Dell put in not too long time ago.
3668 does not have Dell support of Win 7. some older Inspiron such as 530 (core 2 duo cpu) or 660 had Dell Win 7 support Win 7 was around the time of core 2 duo or earlier Intel 2nd-3rd gen cpu in 2012 or so. So those older Dell pcs have Dell support of Win 7 but not 3668.
3668 has Intel 7th gen cpu and is much newer than Win 7 era.
You can still install Win 7 in 3668 but there is no Dell support for it. Win 7 is known not to include its own USB 3 driver. I am not familiar w Linux but the it is open source so likely someone wrote USB driver for this model. It is just Microsoft do not have it in Win 7. That is a known issue when user try to install Win 7.
This is verified: Windows 7 OS does not have built-in drivers for USB 3.0

Hi
USB 3 is possible with windows 7.
Not easy but achievable.
USB 3 may well be supported by the manufacturer of the Main Board and the appropriate drivers should be downloaded from there.
You may be unlucky ...
The main board in a Dell Inspiron 3668 is manufactured by Wistron. It is a proprietary Micro ATX motherboard designed specifically for this Dell model. The motherboard has the Dell part number 07KY25 (also written as 7KY25)
Based on the search results, you can download the latest drivers for the Wistron main board 7ky25 from the Dell support website. There are two driver versions available:

Please don't double-post the same questions. This was asked and answered here.
And yes, you marked my post in that other thread as the Accepted Answer.
