virus infection of Inspiron 24 5400
while clicking internet there came a page asking to prove user is not a robot but I think it is a fake question. the click actually downloads a malware which then became persistent at R lower corner of monitor forcefully sending fake announcement: your pc is infected, get McAfee which I think if user clicks again will lead to more virus download. unfortunately can not find a way to shut it down. this is a recent clean Win 10 latest install.
I am surprised that modern pc is so vulnerable even with Win 10. there was no warning from Win 10 itself not to click the fake robot question.
I did a quick clean install covered in another discussion which was fast and I did not need to save any data. I just do not see another way to wipe the pc clean of the malware.

Those are adware and notifications, not viruses. Therefore, your Windows 10 has to install those extensions as instructed by the system administrator (you).

chino those are real malevolent software pop up windows. its behavior is like this: you close it, it pops right back. and this keeps going on. and it makes a Windows notification sound too. it is malware, if technically not the same as virus. I did not see a way to shut it down. I can not find it in task mgr

Although Windows does not see it as harmful, some could be very nuisance and aggravate. Useful ones are with information users wish to see such as weather alert, temperature, news. Others weren't as users intents or sneaked in without permission as add-on third parties. Commonly found with videos of the day, bookmarks, coupons, gaming sites, investment opportunities. Some are borderline malware and tricked users to open system ports.
Depending on what type of pop up notifications, you can check in Windows privacy and apps access settings. Sometimes, it's simply located in installed apps. Test with system disconnected from internet as some are browsers based and will require a browser reset to default, then making adjustment to settings again. That will remove them from allowed sites.
