Upgrading VRAM

Inspiron 3671

Inspiron 3671

I want to increase my VRAM. I had installed a Radeon RX560 4GB, but it would not work on this PC. I now want to see if I can install a display card with 6-8GB VRAM. I've attached the dxdiag file with the specs for this PC. Can anyone tell me if I can install another display adapter that will work? Thanks.

It depends on what "would not work" means -- the base model of this series has a 290W power supply, which will limit your choices in cards -- particularly for those with that much video RAM on them.

Even if you upgrade the power supply, you will face cooling limits as this is really designed to be a computing appliance - it's not designed for upgradeability or performance.

There are some RX560 cards designed to be bus-powered and that should work with your existing power supply.  The higher up you go in video cards, the more likely you'd need a PS upgrade to run them.

Lower power required card:

@ejn63 uh oh. Tjanks for your helpful reply. Just ordered a 500w power supply. Once I install that this weekend I was planning to order a radeon 580 8 gb card. From what you said, this might not be such a good idea given the case size and purpose. Am I right?

As long as you've ordered a power supply that will fit the case (and order a card that will also fit), yes.  Note that the mainboard uses a proprietary 8-pin connector, so you will need an adapter to connect a non-Dell ATX power supply as well.

@ejn63 I ordered the power supply from Dell knowing that their power supply is proprietary. So the 8 pin isn't an issue. The radeon 580 is a 2 port card but plugs into one 16 pin slot. It just take up 2 slots. I think the card has 2 fans on it. Hopefully that will take care of any heat issues. Thanks again for your help!
