Upgrade to 11

Microsoft PC Health says my CPU doesn't meet the min requirements, but according to Microsoft site my computer Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz   3.19 GHz meets the min.  Yes or No??

unfortunately the cpu i5-6500 does not meet official Microsoft Windows 11 requirement.

your pc cannot upgrade to Intel 8th gen cpu which is the minimum required cpu gen for Win 11.

you can still install Win 11 using some modification of installation media.

@redxps630 is spot on. You need at least a Gen 8 CPU. But he is correct that you can modify the installation media and YouTube has a huge number of videos explaining the process. I have an i5 6500 based desktop running Windows 11 very nicely. And I am part of the Windows Insider Preview program and receive all kinds of updates without fail.

@JOcean Thank you for input.  I guess when I went to Microsoft and checked my cpu against their list of acceptable cpus, I apparently misunderstood the list.  Maybe I didn't see that the cpu had to be a Gen 8.  I wanted to avoid buying a new computer as my wife gets nervous when I do upgrades or changes.  The old saying if it is not broken don't fix it.

@redxps630 Thank you for your response.

Should I decide to do the upgrade to Win 11, will my computer run slower and will there be any issues with the software that I have loaded.

I remember that there were some driver issues when up grading from 7 to 10

Thank again

Latest Win11 24H2 downloads a lot of security update.  When all updates are downloaded and installed, I do not think Win 11 runs slower than Win 10 on your pc.  try not to manually install any software in Win 11.  Let Windows take care of all automatically to avoid incompatibility issues.
