Unable to change brightness after updating to Windows 11 25H2 when using Dell Inspiron 5477
Hello,
After updating to Windows 11 25H2 from Windows 11 23H2 changing brightness using slider in Windows no longer works. This issue is not limited to Inspiron AIO but other models as well (please see this thread where even an operating system was reinstalled)
All the drivers and BIOS is up to date. Dell OSD application is installed and application reinstall doesn't help. Also removed the coin cell batter to reset CMOS - that did not help either.
All was fine in Windows 11 23H2 (with November 2025 updates). But after upgrade to Windows 11 25H2 - brightness changes don't work using Windows slider. And the built-in monitor brightness is now permanently set to 100%.
Graphic card drivers (for Intel and NVIDIA) were uninstalled and reinstalled. The Intel Management Software was uninstalled and reinstalled. Tried Windows Update versions of the drivers, tried Dell versions of the drivers with no effect. Removing the monitor in Device Manager doesn't help.
It almost looks like the built-in monitor is identified as an external one as it appears in Settings -> Devices for example. Additionally, in Intel Graphic Control Panel the color range is set to "Limited" instead of "Full" (making the blacks elevated). But that issue was also in Windows 11 23H2.
So it seems that the brightness control problem occurs in Windows 11 24H2/25H2?

I wonder if there are any updates as the issue still occurs. From what I've found out: the internal All In One Display is using WMI to manage brightness. For managing brightness, Dell OSD app is used as it seems to mediate between WMI and hardware. Dell OSD app is installed but the issue still occurs.
People have reinstalled Windows 11 and the issue still happens on Windows 11 24H2/25H2 after some monthly security update. The issue occurs for Dell All in One PCs only (various models, including the newer models) - HP, Lenovo all work fine.

I think the March 2026 KB5079473 cumulative update fixed the brightness slider for the built-in monitor. It has been broken since October's update. We have the model specific Dell OSD installed too.

Indeed, the issue is fixed with the Windows Update.

It seems that Microsoft confirmed the issue and released an update:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/december-1-2025-kb5070311-os-builds-26200-7309-and-26100-7309-preview-5cd455bf-3291-47fa-b0bf-e5f60d0ea7af#id0ebdj=gradual_rollout
Perhaps it will fix it, will test later on...

@RomanTemporary Thank you for this info. We are experiencing this same issue with all our Dell AiOs on campus. We have models ranging from the Optiplex 5400, 5480, 5490, 7420, and Pro 24 Plus. Every model still experiences the same issue, even after installing KB5070311. At this time, KB5072033 is supposed to include this fix, but we are still experiencing the same issue with this update.
We have 24H2 and 25H2 installed on nearly 400 AiOs, and we still have no fix yet. I've reset a device from a cloud download, and the issue persists through every level of updates. We've used Dell Command Updates, Windows Updates, and installed updates directly from the Dell Support website.
We are at a loss for what to try next.
Any other suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Sadly, this needs to be fixed by Dell and Microsoft. Perhaps you have a Microsoft Premier Support agreement? Or some dedicated Dell Support contact? That would probably help to highlight the issue...
I do wonder if other All in One PCs (from HP, Lenovo, Asus) are affected...

Thank you for your replies @RomanTemporary . Our campus has support through Dell TechDirect. I can verify that our HP EliteOne 800 G4 and G5 AiOs do not have the same issue. They had me send some system info about the device I'm testing and asked for the Service Tags of five other devices experiencing the same issue. They also had me run a script to collect logs and upload the collected information to my current case number.

@JBPhoenixCollege Thank you so much for this. You have the best chance to get attention of Dell who can then speak with Microsoft. Fingers crossed!

According to this Dell article: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000364043/windows-11-brightness-control-does-not-work-on-dell-all-in-one-desktops?lang=en it should have been fixed with December 2025 Windows Update but it is not the case, it seems.
