speeding up firefox?

 Hi,

I have two search engines installed in my Inspiron 3891-- Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Edge seems to be working OK, but firefox is slow slow slow--- the home page comes up pretty well, but searches  take "forever" to load-- the '"little blue circle" spins endlessly-- so slow that you almost  forget what you are searching for!!

what is going on here? (The firefox version I beleive is up to date) should I just uninstall and start all over, installing it again? Id having TWO at the same time ( s to speak) the problem?  appreciate any feedback/advice...

@shipman2 - I don't understand...

Firefox and Edge are browsers, not "search engines", like you said.  You can have as many as browsers as you want installed, but not probably good to have more than one running at a time, because they'll be competing for system resources.

So are you talking about browsing around the internet or actually using a search engine (Bing, Google, DuckDuckGo) to find something specific?

If you have a lot of extensions installed in Firefox, you might try disabling them and see if things go faster.

Which CPU and how much RAM (memory) are installed in your Inspiron 3891? A slow CPU and limited RAM can slow things down too...

I use Firefox on my PC (latest is v106.0.3) and it's quite fast for browsing the internet. I use DuckDuckGo to search for specific topics and it's fast too.

some third party browser is not optimized to run at latest Win 10.  this is MS strategy to promote edge and capture advertising revenue.

Hi RoHe.

Yeah, I guess I mean browser.  I have edge and Firefox--and try not to have them "on" at the same time. Just so we are on the same page, with my poor descriptions--I'm a history teacher. I go to firefox, or edge, and type in Lincoln in the search box,  and get the results sometimes I do use google images, for example., to look up a history picture-- But  with firefox,  it's virtually "inoperable" at the moment-- the home page comes up well, but type anything on the search box, and the little blue dots will "move" forever with nothing but a blank white screen forever, seemingly  Oh, my stats: Windows 11 Home-- intell(r) core TMi3 10105 CPU, 8 gb memory, 1TB HDD--

What are you using for your Firefox home page? Which search engine is being used when you type into the search box?  Click Tools>Settings>Search. See what's listed as Default Search Engine. Try changing it to a different search engine and see if that helps.

Have you tried clearing Firefox cache, cookies, history? Tools>Settings>Privacy&Security. Under Cookies & Site Data, click Clear Data, then put a check in box "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed". Then scroll down to History and click Clear History. Next, put a check in box Clear History when Firefox closes. Last click Settings under History, check all the boxes and click OK. Close Firefox and restart and see if things have improved.

You do have a slow i3 CPU, which doesn't help. Do you have only Intel Graphics or do you have an NVidia add-in video card?

Are you using WiFi or Ethernet connection to the internet? What speed internet connection do you have? And what speed are you actually getting?  You can test internet speed for free here.

You may want to reset your PC's internet connection, so let us know the above doesn't improve things, and we can tell you how to do that...
